Genaro Rivas, the recent winner of The Visa Young Creators: Recycle the Runway competition hosted by Vogue Business, unveils his complete menswear debut in London, presenting a darkly poetic, sustainable vision.
Following a striking preview at Berlin Fashion Week, Peruvian designer Genaro Rivas brings his full menswear collection, A Feast for Crows, to London. This move reaffirms his commitment to purpose-driven fashion through a new material focus: denim. This marks Rivas’s first foray into the fabric, and true to form, he defies convention.
Crafted entirely from recovered and sustainable denim, the collection showcases radical zero-waste pattern-cutting, manual surface treatments, hand embroidery, 3D printing, and laser engraving. From fabric sourcing to finishing, Rivas maintains a rigorous dedication to circularity and low-impact production methods, including conscientious water use during textile treatment. With 95% of the labour led by women across both London and Peru, A Feast for Crows becomes a powerful and tangible statement on ethical creation, all expressed with cool irreverence.
The collection draws on the mystical symbolism of crows in folklore and magic, creatures often seen as messengers, shapeshifters, and guardians of the unseen. Through this lens, Rivas explores themes of transformation, rebirth, and the reclamation of value from what has been discarded.
Key pieces include laser-etched reinterpretations of two iconic raven artworks: Raven (1831) by Robert Havell, Jr., and Le Corbeau (1875) by Édouard Manet. These are reimagined as modern prints engraved directly onto garments like arcane sigils. Accessories are handcrafted from discarded uniforms sourced from Lima’s Metro Linea Uno, while one standout look is entirely constructed from market bag raffia, transformed into contemporary couture.
Hair direction for the collection was led by Richard Phillipart, with make-up by Manuel De Castro. Original music by Kai Brophy evokes the collection’s atmospheric tension and gothic elegance. The track is now available globally on Spotify.
Now fully realised in London, A Feast for Crows spreads its wings, blending gothic romanticism, sustainable innovation, and avant-garde craftsmanship. This presentation marks Genaro Rivas’s fifth consecutive season in London, establishing him as the first and only Peruvian designer to achieve this milestone.
