London Fashion Week | 18 September 2026: Annie Doble presented NOCTURNE: A LONDON WINTER at London Fashion Week on 18 September 2026, drawing on Victorian silhouettes and the atmosphere of nineteenth-century London to explore elegance, romance and mystery.
Inspired by Christina Rossetti’s 1854 poem, “Come to me in the silence of the night; Come in the speaking silence of a dream,” the collection reflects Doble’s longstanding connection to London, the city she has always called home.
London’s history, enduring romance and sense of intrigue form the foundation of the collection. Drawing inspiration from the atmospheric world of Charles Dickens, Doble explores the contrasts of Victorian life, from light and shadow to grandeur and grit, strength and vulnerability.
The collection evokes scenes of winter in nineteenth-century London, including gas lamps reflected on rain-soaked cobbled streets, candlelit interiors and the quiet beauty of winter gardens. These references create a cinematic mood that brings together historical influence and contemporary femininity.
Victorian Couture Reimagined
Materials associated with Victorian couture feature prominently throughout the collection. Black velvet, raw dupion and moiré silk, recognised for its distinctive watered finish, are combined with hand-applied threadwork and shimmering glass beads.
Dark embellishments reference the intricate jet jewellery associated with Queen Victoria’s mourning period, while sculptural corsetry and dramatic silhouettes pay tribute to the craftsmanship of nineteenth-century dress.
Doble transforms these historical influences through her own design language, creating pieces that are sensual, feminine and theatrical while remaining intended for contemporary wear.
Each garment is named after characters from Charles Dickens’ novels, historic London streets or figures from Victorian folklore. Together, the pieces form a narrative centred on heritage, romance and craftsmanship, with each design offering its own story.
Craftsmanship and Sustainable Production
Craftsmanship remains central to Annie’s collections. Each piece is meticulously constructed and embellished using traditional techniques, reflecting Doble’s commitment to sustainability through the use of natural fibres and small-scale production.
Through NOCTURNE: A LONDON WINTER, Annie Doble brings Victorian references into a collection shaped by London’s history, winter atmosphere and enduring influence on her creative work.
