WASHINGTON, June 16: Hollywood star Anya Taylor-Joy has officially joined the cast of the upcoming fantasy epic “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum”, marking a major addition to Warner Bros. and New Line’s return to J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendary Middle-earth universe.

The Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee will portray Seren, a Sindar Elf from the Woodland Realm. According to the makers, Seren is described as “a trusted and lethal agent of King Thranduil,” adding a powerful new character to the expanding fantasy saga.
The announcement was confirmed via the film’s official social media channels, further fueling global anticipation for the long-awaited continuation of the franchise.
A Star-Studded Return to Middle-earth
Directed by and starring Andy Serkis, the film will see him reprise his iconic role as Gollum. The project also brings back several beloved characters from the original trilogy, including Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo, and Lee Pace as King Thranduil.
Taylor-Joy joins an ensemble cast featuring Kate Winslet as Marigol, Jamie Dornan as Strider, and Leo Woodall as Halvard, expanding the film’s already high-profile lineup.
Expanding the Tolkien Universe
Set in the years leading up to The Fellowship of the Ring, “The Hunt for Gollum” follows the search for the corrupted Hobbit Gollum before the events of the original trilogy unfold. The film aims to deepen the mythology of Middle-earth while focusing on one of its most complex characters.
The screenplay is being developed by returning Tolkien collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, alongside Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou. Production also reunites key members of the original Oscar-winning creative team, including Peter Jackson.
Warner Bros. Builds on a Billion-Dollar Legacy
The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film franchises have collectively earned nearly USD 6 billion worldwide, making them one of cinema’s most successful fantasy universes. Warner Bros. is now looking to expand that legacy with new stories set in Middle-earth.
The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on December 17, 2027.
Taylor-Joy’s Growing Franchise Presence
This role marks Anya Taylor-Joy’s continued expansion into major studio franchises. She previously appeared in Furiosa, the Mad Max prequel, and is also part of the Dune film universe. She will next be seen in Apple TV+’s “Lucky”, which she also executive produces.
