The film ‘Back to the Future’ comes to life on the West End stage in a show that won’t disappoint fans of the film, and everyone else!

Back to the future the musical

Once you go into the lobby of the Adelphi Theatre you walk into the year 1955 with stores from that era throughout. But in the actual theatre is where the action and adventure takes place. It’s like stepping into a pinball machine for a 135 minute exciting ride. Strap into your seats!

‘Back to the Future’ follows Marty McFly (Olly Dobson) in lives in 1985 but is suddenly transported to 1955 via a time-travelling DeLorean built by Doc Brown (a hilarious Roger Bart). It’s in 1955 where Marty meets his future parents in high school – teenagers George and Lorraine (an excellent Hugh Coles and Rosanna Hyland). Marty needs to make sure that his parents kiss at the school dance to make sure that his and his siblings will exist in the future. There’s just a couple problems, Marty needs to find Doc Brown to build the car that will take him back to the present, and his mom takes a fancy to him!

All the fun of the film (which starred a very young Michael J. Fox) is matched on the stage, including the songs (‘The Power of Love’) the bright colours of the set and costumes, and of course the car – the Delorean – yes it’s a big player in the show. And both Coles and Bart are the two best things about the show. Teenage Coles is unconfident and clumsy – and Coles plays it to perfection! Bart, meanwhile, has the best lines and the best scenes as the bumbling scientist who is way ahead of his time. Bart is just pure comedic genius. It’s been a long time coming that this show hits the West End stage – but now that it’s here go see it. It’s a fun ride!
