On Friday, 23rd March, and every Friday thereafter, Café de Paris will launch The Service, a theatrical and immersive burlesque and cabaret show that reflects the dark, sexy and alternative history of one of the world’s most renowned clubs. From the beginnings of Café de Paris in the roaring ‘20s through to the ‘40s big bands; the debauchery of Princess Margaret’s 21st birthday in the ‘50s and the ‘90s secret A-list parties, The Service features jaw-dropping performances that capture the essence of this iconic venue, spanning more than nine decades.
THE STORY
The Service brings to life the epic tales, dramas, and confessions as told by some of the lesser known yet nonetheless remarkable stars – the ‘staff’ of Café de Paris, played by a talented array of performers. Cheeky bellboys pour champagne suspended high above your heads, acrobatic waiters wink and flirt to win favor and seductive secrets unfold throughout the show.
The story is told by the illustrious Reuben Kaye, host and Maître d’, who seamlessly blends lavish storytelling into gilded song, dominating the stage and bewitching the audience, making The Service an unforgettable experience.
THE EVENING
Step forth into the glamorous 1920’s ‘Titanic Ballroom’ for the crème of cabaret, circus and burlesque, all combined with fabulous drinks, canapés and dining packages. Book in for a two or three course (£55/£60) meal to enjoy prior to the show. Or, go all out and indulge in the VIP dining package (£80) that includes a three-course dinner with half a bottle of prosecco per person. Views of the show are also excellent from the mezzanine level, where you can watch the show with waiter service and your own bar (£20).
Meet the cast, once the curtain comes down, in the clandestine Red Bar and enjoy a more intimate experience or take to the dancefloor in the main room as the Café de Paris transforms into an epic club.
THE CAST
Prepare to be captivated by the brilliant, award-winning, internationally acclaimed cast. Princess Margaret is played by Bettsie Bon Bon – known as ‘the body of burlesque’ and voted Best Burlesque Performer 2016; whilst Sammy Dinneen, aka the Valet, is one of the best and most technical hand balancers in the UK. Ken ‘Snakehips’ Johnson, the star of Britain’s black swing movement in the 1940s, is played by Korri Aulakh, who trained at the National Centre for Circus Arts and the National Circus School of Montreal.
Anna the Hulagan, who plays The Club Kid, is one of the UK’s leading hula hoop teachers, best known as ‘London’s cult hula hoop artiste’ (The Times). As the winner of the Triple Crown
award at the World Burlesque Games, Hulagan delivers performances that are as fun as they are sexy.
