The terrace

The Parisian terrace – Bright and panoramic, the Parisian terrace of the Café de Paris, will submerge you in the authentic ambience of a bistrot parisien. Make some time for the delightful experience of sipping mint tea at the waters-edge, or a cappuccino out of sight… Discreet and private, the Parisian terrace offers the privilege of being “outside” all year around.

Ground floor terrace – On the Place du Casino, this is the spot to be and to be seen. Under the white umbrellas and basking in the sunshine, admiring the parade of luxury cars spiralling around on the Place, you’ll be faced by the magnificent architecture of the Hôtel de Paris and the Casino … The waiters ensure that everything runs smoothly; going backwards and forwards in their formal attire. The most beautiful women in the city are there drinking tea or enjoying a cocktail while businessmen are there holding meetings… The Café de Paris terrace is mythical and captures the very essence of the venue.

The terrace bar – It’s open all year round, from breakfast until late night. At the terrace bar, you can enjoy a wide range of drinks and exotic cocktails in exquisite surroundings. For a breakfast worthy of its name, or an enchanting early evening in the vicinity of the famous Café de Paris, the terrace bar is the ideal place.

Franck Lafon

Executive Chef, Café de Paris

In September 2016, the Café de Paris Monte-Carlo appointed its new executive chef: Franck Lafon.

At the age of just 17, this great professional in the world of fine-dining, set to work at the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, and never left the palace. In 1999, he took the lead at the Côté Jardin.

Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer has placed one of its most prized crown jewels in the hands of a ‘local-boy’. Franck Lafon, original from Tende, was introduced to authentic regional products and discovered a taste for fine things at a very young age, thanks to his mother and grandmother who were both excellent cooks. He remembers his childhood fondly and there is no doubt it played its part in drawing him to his vocation.

After studying in Menton under Jean Montagnard, and obtaining his BEP, Franck Lafon joined the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo. The young man was recruited as a third commis. “We had to learn quickly and were constantly having to overcome obstacles,” says Franck Lafon, smiling. He admits to having learned everything in “this prestigious establishment where you have to know how to do everything”. Over the years, this fully dedicated chef has shared his precise ‘savoir-faire’ and perfectionism with younger chefs who are now also contributing to the prestige of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer.

Equipped with the expertise gained at the Côté Jardin, he crossed the Place du Casino to become part of another legend.  “For me, the Café de Paris Monte-Carlo is a magnificent ocean vessel cruising every day.” Although he was raised with regional and seasonal products, Franck Lafon has a love for food and is also keen to bring a modern, elegant and more contemporary touch to the menu. Franck Lafon is breaking new ground with dishes that have evolved with time. Along with the “brasserie à la Parisienne” quality of the restaurant that Lafon cultivates, the chef has also decided to incorporate some gourmet options. As a core component of what the establishment stands for and inspired by local produce, vegetables from the hinterland, responsible fishery products, etc, have been added to the menu ingredients. All of this with the aim of reviving unpretentious, reassuring cuisine, that awakens long-lost senses and sheer delight in anyone sharing it.

“Cuisine is a holistic experience, it’s not just about what’s on your plate” adds Franck Lafon, working harmoniously with his colleagues in the room. “I listen to everybody,” says the athletic, family-man, who is thrilled with the new challenge that the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer has bestowed upon him.
