Two couples enjoy drinks in a cozy NYC apartment one evening and chat away about relationships and other stuff in the new play Daniel’s Husband.

Mitchell (Luke Fetherston) and Daniel (Joel Harper-Jackson) have been together seven years. Barry (Olivier Award winning actor David Badella) and Trip (Raiko Gohara) have been together 2 weeks, and have a 20-year plus age gap between them. Daniel is a successful writer (Mitchell is a successful architect) and David is Daniel’s agent (while Trip is a home health aide). When the conversation turns to marriage, and why Mitchell and Daniel have yet to be officially married, the mood turns dark. You see, Daniel doesn’t believe in gay marriage, he wants to remain unique, different, and he says he enjoys the luxury of being a gay man, he doesn’t want to be part of the mainstream. And while he and Mitchell love each other a lot, he just doesn’t want to get married. Mitchell, whose overbearing (and nosy mom – Liza Sadovy – and who comes to visit from time to time), really wants to cement their relationship and take the final step – marriage – which comes with benefits and legality. Yet when an event threatens Mitchell and Daniel’s relationship, where even David and Trip can’t help out with, what’s going to happen next?
At 90 minutes long, Daniel’s Husband packs a powerful punch. It draws on heavy themes (the play gets much darker in the third part) but it’s handled with elegant and grace with a great cast (Badella is always very good in whatever he does). Michael McKeever has written a script that harks back to tackling gay themes that have been presented in the past….with direction by Alan Souza. Once the show finishes you will leave with a heavy heart and chest and its theme will remain with you long after.
Daniel’s Husband is now playing until Jan. 10th, 2026.
