Mayfair is full of magic and sparkle indeed but when you come across hidden gems in the form of food and drink, that’s what makes London even more special. Set in the heart of Mayfair, but nestled in Down Street lies little Espana, a truly amazing Tapas restaurant called El Pirata.

El pirata restaurantThis restaurant really does bring the taste of Spain to London and will leave your taste buds wanting more. El Pirata boasts a menu spanning more than 60 dishes ranging from meats, seafood, chicken to vegetables and there is something for all tastes. The portions are a generous size and are full of taste and succulent in all the right places. Whether you want to pop in for a light lunch, a romantic candle lit dinner, or want to have a drink with friends and family, you won’t be disappointed with what’s on offer. Their wine menu on its own has a collection of OVER 140 Spanish wines but non wine drinkers, don’t fret as there are also beers and soft drinks available.

Some personal favourite tapas dishes for me are the Pollo (chicken) croquettes, Gambas Pil Pil, Calamari and Marinated Chicken and Chorizo skewers- to name a few. If you want to try something a little more authentic and in my eyes is a MUST, then be sure to order the Jamón Ibérico 100% – this is acorn-fed 100% iberian ham, known as “Spain’s national treasure” and literally melts in your mouth. These hand carved, wafer thin slices of Jamon are full of taste and are completely and utterly moreish and delicious.

There are many options if your vegetarian too and dishes range from salads to small green peppers, mushrooms in garlic to the famous Patatas Bravas and much more.

For those wanting something more filling and more of a main course, why not check out their ‘Chef Specials’ which has dishes ranging from Lamb Chops, Pork Belly, Grilled Fish and more.

Normally dining out in Mayfair especially can be pretty expensive but it was so refreshing to not only be able to dine out in Mayfair at a place with beautiful food, but not have to worry about the pricing being ridiculous – infact it was the complete opposite and definitely reasonable which makes it even more of a gem!

The restaurant has a real authentic feel to it, it’s perfect for dining both days and nights and most certainly has a cosy but homely feel to it. The staff are always on hand with recommendations and are great with their service and are so friendly too. There is a nice vibe to the restaurant and Jose the manager is a great character, a lovely man indeed!

El Pirata will be celebrating their 25th birthday this year and I wish them all the best on such a fabulous restaurant.

I highly recommend El Pirata to anyone who loves their food or even wants to try something a little different. There is something for everyone!
