I attended a great gig in Nantes last night with “Skip the Use”. The charismatic leader of the band, Mat, is as usual super energetic and conveys strong messages through his songs which are eruptive catchy combinations of rock and punk. A super high level for an hour and a half. I loved to be just close to him in this little concert hall.
Originally playing in a punk band called Carving, they have been for several years part of the French landscape since they released their debut eponymous album Skipe the Use. They gained fame back in the early 2010s with their greatest hit “Ghost”. If you kind of forgot (I’d be surprised if so) just check this out to refresh your memory!
Skip the Use basically means “go of the beaten tracks” i.e. kind of “shake up the established order of things”. No need to say that this electro punk style and energetic live performance is due to the unbeatable driving force created by great artists either via vocals (Mat Bastard), keyboard, bass and guitar.
My piece of advice : do not skip the dates ! “Skip the Use” will tour France in 2023. Among the dates, you’d better book a ticket for the big one at the Zenith, Paris on 21 October !
