From 22 to 26 April, the exhibition ‘Magtymguly Fragi and the cultural heritage of Turkmenistan’ took visitors to the heart of this Central Asian country, revealing the richness and diversity of its age-old traditions. Precious manuscripts, art and craft objects of remarkable finesse, sumptuous carpets and spellbinding musical instruments: a veritable national treasure trove was on display for the admiring gaze of the public.

A journey through history and tradition

The exhibition highlighted the immense work of Maktymguli Fragi, an emblematic figure of Turkmen literature. His poems, imbued with profound wisdom and an unconditional love for his country, have been translated into many languages and continue to inspire future generations.

In addition to Fragi’s literary legacy, the exhibition also provided an opportunity to discover the beauty of the Turkmen landscape, its historic towns and ancient customs. Visitors were able to admire traditional costumes, refined jewellery and typical musical instruments such as the dutar and the gyjak.

This exceptional event, organised by the Permanent Delegation of Turkmenistan to UNESCO in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, is part of the intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding promoted by UNESCO.

A resounding success and a fruitful collaboration

The Turkmenistan Cultural Week was a huge success with the public, attracting visitors from all over the world. The French and international media also covered the event extensively, helping to publicise the richness of Turkmen culture.

A time for sharing and fruitful exchanges

In addition to discovering a fascinating culture, the Cultural Week of Turkmenistan was an opportunity to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between France and Turkmenistan. It was also an opportunity to promote intercultural dialogue and celebrate the diversity of the world’s cultures.

    A lasting memory

This event will remain engraved in our memories as a moment of sharing and fruitful exchanges, an invitation to travel through space and time, to encounter a rich and vibrant culture that never ceases to fascinate us.

Many thanks to His Excellency the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to France, Mr Maksat Chariev, who was a real key figure in this event.
