Electronic music pioneers The Prodigy have announced their first-ever audio collaboration, joining forces with British innovators Flare Audio to create The Prodigy’s own no-compromise earphone made in England.

Uniting disrupters in their fields, the project sees British music revolutionaries and cultural icons; The Prodigy’s Liam Howlett and Maxim, collaborate with the award-winning British audio brand to create a sonically advanced, new technology, patent-pending, wired earphone. Combining The Prodigy’s unmistakable aesthetic with uncompromising sonic clarity, the band were involved in every stage of the earphone’s creation, refining every detail to bring their vision to life.
New earphone technology
The British made earphone utilises new patent-pending technology developed by Flare that provides more definition from an earphone than has ever been heard before. By using state-of-the-art manufacturing technology, Flare has engineered an intricate, internal waveguide structure that removes earphone resonances. Earphone resonance occurs when sound bounces around inside an earphone, creating unwanted noise that makes music feel harsh and uncomfortable, distorting the original recording. “The earphone is laser-fused layer by layer and designed to deliver high energy sound without any loss of detail, to make sure the listening experience is uncompromised,” explains Flare’s Co-Founder and inventor, Davies Roberts.
Presentation
The earphone features the band’s iconic Ant Logo on the earphone and comes in bespoke Prodigy packaging designed by the band.
Why the collaboration?
This marks the first time The Prodigy have ever collaborated on an audio product. Liam has used Flare earphones for over a decade in the studio and wanted to be personally involved in shaping an earphone that reflected his own sonic vision for how music should be heard. As lifelong Prodigy fans, the Flare team understood the band’s uncompromising attention to detail. Working directly with the company’s inventor, Davies Roberts, the band have co-created a sonic powerhouse.
The brief
The brief from the band was to develop a unique earphone that delivers attack and full resolution. From detailed HF to sub bass; every frequency had to deliver without any distortion or compromise. Liam a/b tested hundreds of earphones during the development process with Flare, in order to drill down on exactly the sound he wanted.
Bluetooth was ruled out early on. The band insisted on wired earphones because they deliver a direct, uninterrupted connection to the music, without the compression or compromises associated with Bluetooth. Sound quality first, always.
They spent over two years developing the earphone together. The process included countless listening sessions, hundreds of prototypes and detailed feedback from Liam at his studio.
“Liam is meticulous about sound, his attention to detail in creating this earphone sent us back to the drawing board countless times.” reveals Roberts.
“Once we’d perfected the sound signature, the band exerted the same level of scrutiny into the design. From the exact shape of the earphone, how it sits in the ear, the shade and depth of black – to the precise angle of the ant – every tiny detail was analysed, considered and refined.”
“We’ve been huge Prodigy fans from the very beginning,” he continues. “Liam is a master when it comes to music production. His sound is groundbreaking and The Prodigy have carved out a space in music that is entirely their own. Nobody sounds like them. This isn’t just an earphone with a logo on it. It’s been an intense, deliberate and obsessive collaboration, with both sides pouring an enormous amount of passion and attention into every detail, in order to let people hear music in a way they’ve not heard it before.”
“WHEN IM AWAY FROM THE STUDIO ON TOUR ,, I NEED TO BE ABLE TO CARRY ON WRITIN TUNES OR PUTTIN IDEAS DOWN …. SO ITS BEEN IMPORTANT TO ME ENGINEER THESE EARPHONES TO DELIVER THE FULL ACCURATE RANGE OF SOUND .. I NEED TO HEAR THINGS THE SAME WAY I HEAR THEM IN THE STUDIO ,,, ESPECIALLY IF IM SITTING IN A HOTEL ROOM FOR 2 DAYS WORKING ON MUSIC ,,,,
IV GOTTA BE ABLE TO TRUST THE SOUND IM HEARING IS RIGHT AND GONNA HIT …”
