BBC Radio 3 announces Edith Bowman as the new presenter of Sound of Cinema, the station’s flagship programme dedicated to the art of film music.

Airing every Saturday at 4pm, Edith will guide listeners through timeless and contemporary film scores with features, interviews, and themed selections that celebrate the power of music on screen.
Her first programme, on 1 November, features a special interview with Oscar-winning composer Rachel Portman. Upcoming guests include Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, The Polar Express), Dame Emma Thompson, and Graham Norton.
A leading voice at the intersection of film and music, Edith is the creator and host of the award-winning podcast Soundtracking, where she has interviewed many of the world’s foremost directors and composers—from Greta Gerwig and Martin Scorsese to Hans Zimmer and Mica Levi. Soundtracking will continue alongside Edith’s new role; she also presents Cinematic Soundtracks on BBC Radio 3 Unwind.
Edith Bowman says:
“Film and music are two of my passions that I’m very lucky to enthuse about in my work. I’m excited to add Sound of Cinema to that, and to share so much incredible music with the audience. I’m genuinely over the moon to be welcomed into the Radio 3 family alongside my work on Radio 3 Unwind.”
The programme will be produced by BBC Audio’s new production unit based in Northern Ireland and Scotland.
You can listen to Sound of Cinema on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Sounds.
