The Kandima crew are having a ball working out al fresco this week with special Beach Rugby Fitness classes taken by rugby star Piers Francis.

The English Rugby Union player jetted to the resort situated on the Dhaalu Atoll in the Maldives with girlfriend Amanda McClatchie, after being given a rare week off by his club.

“Kandima is above and beyond anything I had hoped for, ” says Piers. “It’s incredible! It’s like nothing I’ve experienced before and having soaked up some sun for a few days, I am looking forward to enjoying some of the many activities available.”

Like all sportspeople, Piers has to pay attention to his diet and he’s in the right place. There are 10 restaurants and bars at Kandima Maldives and each offers a range of delicious, healthy options.

Piers, who has regular kicking sessions with Jonny Wilkinson can continue with his fitness regime at the resort’s fully air-conditioned gym Burn, but he can also chill and enjoy a soothing deep tissue massage at the awesome esKape spa – at Kandima you get to hear the ocean crashing on the beach during your message!

Piers and Amanda are staying in an overwater Aqua Villa with a Jacuzzi that has stunning views of the Indian Ocean.

Rugby talk…

Piers joined Northampton Saints in March 2017 and played for England during the 2017 tour of Argentina, where he scored a try.

“It has been a lifelong ambition to play for my country,” says Piers. “I had a great time debuting in Argentina last year and to play my first game at Twickenham Stadium in the white jersey in front of my family and friends has been a highlight.”

He’s had a difficult first season at Northampton and missed out on playing at the Six Nation’s due to the concussion, but he’s hoping to play the Summer tour in South Africa this June and he’ll certainly feel well rested after a break at Kandima.

“It’s disappointing from a team perspective to have this week off as we intended to prepare for the LV Cup, but lost by a point in the semi-finals. However, since returning to England from New Zealand I haven’t had a break and it’s a long season, so to be able to charge for a week is a blessing.”
