    Finalists announced for 20th Anniversary of UK Coaching Awards

    The finalists for the 20th Anniversary of the UK Coaching Awards, have been announced.

    From a record amount of nominations, an expert judging panel have carefully deliberated and selected the following finalists.

    Awards for coaches

    The following categories will be awarded to coaches:


    Children’s Coach of the Year

    • Ady Gray (Karate)
    • Dave George (Cycling)
    • David Walsh (Multi)

    Community Coach of the Year

    • Kevin O’Neill (Football)
    • Marcellus Baz (Boxing)
    • Phil Alcock (Nordic Walking)

    Talent Development Coach of the Year

    • David Unsworth (Football)
    • Katie Parker (Strength and Conditioning; Multi)
    • Phil Potter (Swimming)

    High-Performance Coach of the Year

    • Ben Rhodes (Sailing)
    • British Athletics Relay Team Coaches (Stephen Maguire; Benke Blomkvist; Christian Malcom)
    • Steve Robinson (Golf)
    • Ziemek Wojciechowski (Fencing)

    Heather Crouch Young Coach of the Year

    • Charlotte Collier (Football)
    • Nourredine Aitouarab (Capoeira)
    • Samuel Tuck (Rowing)

    Disability Coach of the Year

    • Anna Jackson (Wheelchair Basketball)
    • Herman Fung (Wheelchair Badminton)
    • Michelle Weltman (Swimming; Multi)

    Lifetime Achievement Award

    • John White (Swimming)
    • Malcolm Brown (Triathlon)
    • Michelle Weltman (Swimming; Multi)

    Awards in support of coaches

    The following categories will be awarded in support of coaches:

    Coach Developer of the Year

    • Adrienne Hunter (Multi)
    • Bob Muir (Multi)
    • Rus Smith (StreetGames)

    Coaching Intervention of the Year

    • Piper Hall Project (Capoeira)
    • Fitmums and Friends (Athletics)
    • Simply Judo (Judo)

    Coaching Culture of the Year

    • British Weightlifting
    • England Rugby

    Mark Gannon, Chief Executive Officer of UK Coaching said:


    “It’s a real pleasure to announce the names of the finalists for the 20th Anniversary of the UK Coaching Awards.

    “In this special year for the Awards, we had an unprecedented amount of nominations across a multitude of sports and from every corner of the country. This diverse group of people put coaching at the heart of physical activity and sport, and make a difference in many walks of life. I look forward to celebrating their achievements.”

    The showpiece annual event is seen as one of the most prestigious within the coaching community and will be held at The HAC, City of London on Thursday 30 November.

    The principle of the Awards is to recognise the contribution coaches make in transforming lives across the UK. Previous winners include coaches making a huge difference in their community as well as the coaching elite working across a wide variety of sports on the world stage.
