After dominating the Hip-Hop world with his latest music taken from the imminent release of his album ‘INEXHALE’, Fliptrix continues with his exploration of sounds, delivery and genres as he switches up the flow to collaborate with grime scene favorites Jammz and Capo-Lee for ‘Catch Banter’.
Premiering at radio with Mistajam on BBC Radio 1Xtra, the record smashes out the reverb alongside chopped up ad-libs and samples. Perfectly placed sound effects ring off in time with the lyrics to accentuate the meanings and overall vibe this joint creates. Quick firing, back-to-back verses from Fliptrix, Jammz and Capo-Lee see the Hip-Hop legend set pace for the grime emcees as he dabbles with double-time flow and the three sit high on their pedestals to deliver quality lyricism in their own unique styles.
Teamed with an equally impressive visual, something that has been a consistent factor throughout the rollout of all previous tracks on the ‘INEXHALE’ album campaign so far, ‘Catch Banter’ premiered with Clash. The inverted colour concept sees the artists in muted tones and brought to life with back-lit flashes of colour and light. The juxtaposition of the laid-back haze and weed smoke against the rapid-fire delivery make for a captivating watch and a clear connection between the artists as Fliptrix, Jammz and Capo-Lee spar it out.
Creative freedom, both lyrically and visually, is a key component of ‘INEXHALE’ and something that remains consistent throughout Fliptrix’s career. He has released an impressive 7 projects since 2007 and is also a member of super group The Four Owls who dropped 2 of the most classic records in UK Hip Hop history (‘Natures Greatest Mystery’ in 2011 & ‘Natural Order’ in 2015). As part of The Four Owls he has toured the world numerous times and collaborated with the legend DJ Premier on the monumental ‘Think Twice’ single. Alongside his artistry Fliptrix has further contributed to the movement of UK Hip Hop as the Managing Director of High Focus Records. Spearheading talent from across the country, their roster includes the likes of Ocean Wisdom, Coops, Rag ’N’ Bone Man and Fliptrix himself who has gone onto dominate on both a national and international scale. The label launched in 2010 and has been nominated for best small label at 2015 AIM awards, whilst its YouTube channel HighFocusTV has gained over 132 Million views and boasts almost 250,000 subscribers, making it the biggest Hip Hop label in the UK.
As the release of ‘INEXHALE’ draws nearer, Fliptrix continues to flip the notion of conventions on its head by delving into a different state of consciousness, touching on a spectrum of concepts, resurrecting a new dimension to his artistry. The album, produced by the highly respected Joe Corfeild, Molotov & Chemo, takes us on a journey that not only marks maturity in Fliptrix’s sound but demonstrates a depth that explores and pays homage to different influences. Featuring a weighty cast of artists from UK Hip-Hop legend Skinnyman to today’s newest stars Ocean Wisdom and Coops, all the way through to Jammz and Capo-Lee, the dimensions of the album are unfaultable. From the previous records already released, and now with the addition of ‘Catch Banter’, ‘INEXHALE’ is set to become a new benchmark for Fliptrix and the progression, not only of his own sound, but of UK Hip-Hop as a whole.
