    London Fashion Week Men’s June 2019 is a City-Wide Celebration of Creative Diversity

    The 14th edition of London Fashion Week Men’s (LFWM) runs from Saturday 8th June – Monday 10th June. It is a celebration of the creativity and diversity that has made London an international hub for menswear. The home of LFWM returns to the Truman Brewery and features the official BFC Show Space, a curated showroom of menswear brands and experiences, the NEWGEN Pop-Up Showroom and the DiscoveryLAB, a creative space hosting a unique mix of catwalk shows, presentations, experiential thinking and events which will shine a light on the depth and breadth of our creative industry.

    There are many ways the consumer can be a part of this cultural celebration of London, with all the below activities and events open to the public.

    An Enquiring Mind: Manolo Blahnik

    10th June – 1st September 2019

    The Wallace Collection, Hertford House, Manchester Square, London W1U 3BN

    The Wallace Collection and Manolo Blahnik will present An Enquiring Mind: Manolo Blahnik at the Wallace Collection. The exhibition features a personally selected edit of shoe designs from Blahnik’s private archives set amongst the masterpieces of the Wallace Collection. This exciting venture juxtaposes an icon from the world of contemporary fashion with Wallace’s outstanding collection that has been an inspiration to artists since it opened to the public in 1900.     City Poems and City Music

    Poets, artists and musicians respond to the experience of city life in this series of live events and exhibition. A live programme presents contemporary work on the theme of the city with performances from musician Thurston Moore (b. 1958, USA), poet CAConrad (b. 1966, USA) and British punk trio Big Joanie.     Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams

    Spanning from 1947 to the present day, this exhibition traces the history and impact of one of the 20th century’s most influential couturiers, exploring the enduring influence of the fashion house, and Dior’s relationship with Britain. Find out more here.

    Colourstream by Dan Pearson

    Coal Drops Yard, Yard Level, King Cross, London N1C 4DQ

    Colourstream by renowned landscape architect Dan Pearson brings an invigorating splash of colour to Coal Drops Yard. Phase one of this horticultural installation consists of trails of bright geraniums being used to guide visitors towards Coal Drops Yard from Granary Square, creating a vibrant path to the heart of this new space. In addition. ‘The Floral Orchestra’ will be in bloom every spring Saturday afternoon, from Easter to the Summer Solstice. Orchestral arrangements by Xavior. Colourstream is free and open to all.     Cross The Tracks

    Cross The Tracks is a new festival promises to be a funk and soul feast for Brixton and beyond. Chaka Khan, Masego, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Jordan Rakei and The Comet Is Coming lead the funky charge while 40 street food traders will slay appetites in all directions, get tickets here.

    Dorothea Tanning Exhibition

    27th February – 9th June 2019

    Tate Modern, Bankside, London SE1 9TG

    The first major exhibition of American artist Dorothea Tanning in 25 years at Tate Modern. Works spanning Tanning’s prolific career, from her 1930s Surrealist paintings to her final collection of poetry (published when she was one hundred years old), are displayed together in the UK for the first time since her death.     Edvard Munch: Love and Angst review

    Loneliness, anxiety, jealousy, fear and torment: Norwegian artist Edvard Munch (1863-1944) probably wasn’t much fun at parties, but he sure had a knack for art. This exhibition doesn’t make for easy viewing: it’s heavy, dour stuff that’ll hang over you like a dark cloud. Don’t come expecting a massive in-depth show of his iconic paintings – this is all about his prints. Munch worked extensively with woodcuts, lithographs and etchings, and the results are often lovely. Get tickets here.

    EJDER OPEN STUDIO Pop-Up at LFWM

    8th – 9th June 2019

    To celebrate LFWM, EJDER’s OPEN STUDIO provides a physical platform for those from within and around EJDER’s widespread community. OPEN STUDIO aims to create opportunity for young creatives who might not have the chance to have a physical space or platform. It focuses on creating an immersive experience, for both creative and audience, with peer education and community at its core.

    There will be three sessions open to the public on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th of June to drop into:

    JEHU-CAL @ OPEN STUDIO

    8th – 9th June 2019

    JEHU-CAL will be showcasing their two most recent projects along with creating a completely sustainable installation providing information about sustainability within the fashion industry.

    To engage with their audience, JEHU-CAL are giving people the opportunity to come and interact with their project through, styling and modelling their next look book liv using the public as models and also inviting the public to design a garment for the brand. The competition will last across the whole weekend with winner selected and given the opportunity to collaborate with the brand to develop their concept into reality.

    JAFFA SABA @ OPEN STUDIO

    8th – 9th June 2019

    Independent creative, Jaffa Saba will be selling JAFFA SABA x OPEN STUDIO hoodies along with pieces from his archive customised collection.

    To engage with his audience, Jaffa will invite customers to dip objects in liquid rubber to be hung on a drying rack. Alongside this, he will be creating an art installation of the items drip drying.

    META WORKSWORLDWIDE @ OPEN STUDIO

    8th – 9th June 2019

    London-based jeweller and grills brand will be taking moulds of customers and be displaying some of their jewellery product.

    To engage with their audience, METALWORKS will be giving live demonstrations on the process of producing grills as well as wax carving and allowing the public to customise their own dog tags.

    In addition, EJDER will also present its up and coming collection with a adapted version of our installation which will be presented inside of Fashion Week, giving the public the chance to see and experience.

    EJDER will also curate a small retail experience by selecting a hand full of brands that are exclusive to EJDER in the UK as well as releasing some exclusive merchandise.

    Far Side of the Moon by Victor Wong x A.I. Gemini 

    16th April – 14th June 2019

    Innovative artist and inventor, Victor Wong, is leading the collaboration between artificial intelligence and ink art. Wong is the creator of A.I. Gemini, the world’s first robotic ink artist programmed with artificial intelligence to paint unique Chinese landscapes. Gemini is coded to plot 3D virtual terrain. Gemini’s arm dips its brush into ink and water, sweeping across fresh Xuan paper with calculated choreography to reproduce this terrain with lines and shading. Each resulting work is unique.     Field Day

    Over the last decade Field Day has slowly become one of London’s very best music festivals, with a consistently excellent booking policy covering the world’s finest alternative acts. This year marks another big change for the event; after last year’s move from east London’s Victoria Park to Brixton’s Brockwell Park, it’s relocating again – this time to four huge warehouses in Enfield. The line-up is typically on-point, though, with Skepta and Jorja Smith headlining a bill that also includes Diplo, Earl Sweatshirt and Pusha T. Get tickets here.

    Bowling gets a much-deserved major exhibition at Tate Britain. The artist’s long-running career has seen him develop a unique style fusing abstraction with elements of figurative art. Londoners are in for a treat with this show which includes the artist’s stunning ‘map paintings’ and his ‘poured paintings’ (created by literally pouring paint down a canvas). Get tickets here.

    Hampton Court Palace Festival

    Set around a stately home, this is a proper posh series of outdoor gigs – VIP tickets include a three-course dinner and champagne reception within the State Apartments with proper banked seating for the audience. 2019’s edition will feature shows from Kylie Minogue, Tears for Fears, Busted, Chic and The Jacksons.     Jake Wood – Evans: Legacy & Disorder

    Jake Wood-Evans’ highly anticipated 2019 solo exhibition, Legacy & Disorder, at Unit London will feature a large new body of work centred around the artist’s fascination with the passage and experience of time and space. Wood-Evans’ atmospheric oil paintings will focus on the creation of a transient environment, one which is simultaneously enveloping and imploding, inhabited by corporeal and fragmented historical figures.     Jimmy Choo / Ashley Williams Capsule Collection

    Jimmy Choo has collaborated with London designer Ashley Williams creating shoes and bags as part of the Autumn Winter Ready to Wear collection. Comprising new footwear silhouettes and a handbag, the collection crosses boundaries between aesthetics and outlooks, united by a love of the intrinsically, unmistakably feminine.     Leonardo Da Vinci: A Life In Drawing

    The Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace, Buckingham Palace Road, London SW1A 1AA

    Marking the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci, the exhibition brings together more than 200 of the Renaissance master’s greatest drawings in the Royal Collection, forming the largest exhibition of Leonardo’s work in over 65 years. Drawing served as Leonardo’s laboratory, allowing him to work out his ideas on paper and search for the universal laws that he believed underpinned all of creation. The drawings by Leonardo in the Royal Collection have been together as a group since the artist’s death in 1519. Acquired during the reign of Charles II, they provide an unparalleled insight into the workings of Leonardo’s mind and reflect the full range of his interests, including painting, sculpture, architecture, anatomy, engineering, cartography, geology and botany –  get tickets here.

    Iraqi-American artist Michael Rakowitz’s (b. 1973, USA) first major European survey presents a sequence of installations drawing on architecture, cultural artefacts and cuisine to tell stories of social ritual, conflict and loss. It encompasses work considering the citizen visionaries of post Soviet Hungary, Middle Eastern Beatles fans and the stone carvers of Afghanistan, with Rakowitz’s casts of players and objects revealing the legacy of colonisation, modernism and globalism.     Mighty Hoopla Festival

    Mighty Hoopla an LGBT-friendly embrace of alternative club culture and general poptimism.     Phyllida Barlow: Cul-de-Sac review

    Phyllida Barlow is a British sculptor, well-known for using materials such as plaster, cardboard and cement, which turn the conventions of traditional sculpture on its head.     Queer Spaces: London, 1980s – Today

    This exhibition considers the loss of hundreds of community venues around London through market-led redevelopment and how this has changed the capital’s queer scene. It presents work by artists concerned with the disappearance of spaces where LGBTQ+ communities have gathered to socialise, explore their sexuality and try out new identities. Featuring rarely displayed archive material relating to the city’s queer spaces, gathered through extensive research by University College London’s Urban Laboratory. Find out more here.

    New season pieces from Central Saint Martins’ graduates are styled alongside archive John Galliano for Dior in the 18, 11-metre high images that stretch 120 metres around the West End. Knight’s main challenge was to get people to look up from their phones and take in his “public exhibition”. He hopes it will permeate people’s consciousness longer than just an Instagram picture. “With any campaign image you want to get through to people and change how they perceive their lives after that. It’s a big ask, but there’s no point having a big billboard and saying nothing,” he shares. “You want people to look at the world in a different way after they have seen the world that you’ve created.” Find out more here.
