Much was made of Melisa Raouf’s brave decision to enter the semi-finals of the national beauty contest make-up free, and then making it to the last thirty-two finalists. Her stand against pressurising women to wear make-up to hide any imperfections struck a chord and triggered an international media frenzy.

    Miss World title awaits

Courageous Melisa will now carry her powerful message through to the Miss England finals – entering again make-up free – for the first time in the national beauty pageants 94 year history.  If crowned, she’ll represent England in the prestigious Miss World 2023 contest taking place next year.

    Powerful message

“I feel many girls wear makeup because they feel pressured to do so. We shouldn’t be made to cover up our face with makeup, but look after our skin to keep it young, healthy and radiant, and cherish our natural beauty” says Melisa (20), who is a student in politics at Kings College, London.

Melisa’s journey started after winning the Bare Face round launched by Miss England director Angie Beasley in 2019.

“I launched the Bare Face round after receiving so many images where I couldn’t recognise the contestants! This was due to thick make-up and filtered photos they were submitting thinking that’s what we wanted to see. I felt we needed to do something as our entry age is 16-27.  I’m all for make-up to enhance your natural beauty but there’s no need to wear a complete mask, especially at such a young age” says Angie.

Skincare Company Cetuem gave Melisa confidence

Melisa took the brave decision to ditch her make-up after being introduced to the Cetuem skincare range, sponsors of the Miss Bare Face round.

“The Cetuem skincare products have given me the confidence to enter the Miss England semi-finals after winning the Bare Face Top Model round. Since having the facials and using the products my skin has improved significantly” she says

The products are all based on natural ingredients and contain 24 carat colloidal gold www.cetuem.com
