The 78th Venice International Film Festival opens on September 1st and will come to an end on September 11th.

Actress Serena Rossi will host the opening and closing nights of the 78th Venice International Film Festival within La Biennale di Venezia, directed by Alberto Barbera.

Serena Rossi will open the Biennale Cinema 2021 on the evening of Wednesday 1 September, on the stage of Sala Grande (Palazzo del Cinema on the Lido) for the inauguration ceremony, and will host the closing ceremony on Saturday 11 September, when the winners of the Lions and other official prizes of the 78th Venice International Film Festival will be announced.

    SERENA ROSSI

Serena Rossi was born in Naples on 31 August 1985. At the age of 16, she made her debut in theatre in “C’era una volta… Scugnizzi”, the hit musical written by Claudio Mattone and Enrico Vaime. She rose to fame in 2002 with “Un Posto al Sole” and in the following years with various hit television series for Rai and Mediaset such as “Il Commissario Montalbano”, “Il clan dei camorristi”, “Sant’Agostino”, “Adriano Olivetti”, “Che Dio ci Aiuti”, “L’Ispettore Coliandro”.

She returned to theatre in the role of Rosetta in “Rugantino” by Garinei and Giovannini, a musical comedy which the Teatro Sistina took to Broadway and the New York City Center.

On screen, she starred in the Manetti Bros’ hit film “Song ‘e Napule” (2012) and the comedies “Al Posto Tuo”, “Troppo Napoletano” and “Caccia al Tesoro”.

At the 75th Venice International Film Festival, she was in competition with “Ammore e Malavita” by the Manetti Bros, for a performance that won her a David di Donatello, a Nastro d’Argento and a Ciak d’Oro.

“Brave Ragazze” by Michela Andreozzi and “7 ore per farti innamorare” by Giampaolo Morelli won her nominations for the Nastro d’Argento as Best Comedy Actress in 2020 and for a Ciak d’Oro as Best Actress. That same year she starred in “Lasciami andare” by Stefano Mordini, presented at the 77th Venice Film Festival.

Following the release in streaming of “La tristezza ha il sonno leggero” by Marco Mario de Notaris, she is currently awaiting the release in theatres of the highly anticipated “Diabolik” by the Manetti Bros.

In the role of Mia Martini in the film “Io sono Mia” by Riccardo Donna, presented at the Festival di Sanremo, Serena has won definitive recognition as an actress and singer, winning a Special Nastro d’Argento and a nomination for the Ciak d’Oro as Best Actress.

In 2021, she was directed by Tiziana Aristarco in “Mina Settembre”, the series that aired on Raiuno television and attracted a record number of viewers, freely inspired by the short stories of Maurizio de Giovanni.

She has been the dubbing voice talent for various Walt Disney characters: Princess Anna in the “Frozen” saga, Cinderella in “Into the Woods” and was the singing voice for Emily Blunt in “The Return of Mary Poppins”.

Music is a constant element in Serena Rossi’s artistic career and has played a key role in widening the scope of her talent.

This passion of hers, and her talent, led her at a very young age to record two albums before taking part in 2014 in the Rai 1 television show “Tale e Quale Show” hosted by Carlo Conti, which she won 2 years in a row.

It was at that moment that she began her career as a television host: from “Celebration”, “Da qui a un anno” to “Cinepop” through the show “Canzone Segreta”.
