After a long day your body needs an opportunity to repair and rejuvenate itself. The quality of your sleep goes hand in hand with the number of hours we try to get each night. Lack of sleep can lead to dark circles, under-eyebags, sagging skin and an overall tired appearance. According to the CDC, National Sleep Foundation 7-9 hours of sleep is needed for adults with nearly 30% of adults admitting to getting 6 or less hours per day.

The key to quality beauty sleep involves everything from your bedroom environment to what you wear to bed. The sleep experts at Natural Mat guide us through their 7 ultimate tricks that will help you get them all important hours of sleep.

    1. Goose down pillows
With your head hitting the pillow to gain that all important good nights sleep you need to make sure you have the best of the best. There is nothing like the finest quality goose down and feather to make for the perfect nights sleep. The Goose Down Pillow is wrapped in a cotton cambric case which is completely chemical free and is the right level of deep and plump. The element that makes these pillows special is their insulation properties, they neither get too warm or too cold as they are designed with insulating materials. The pillow remains near to the ambient temperature even when its not being used, leaving you feeling rested when you wake up.
    2. Sleep masks
An eye mask is needed to block out any pesky light that can disturb your sleep. The best option is a silk mask as it doesn’t absorb any skincare products you apply before bed and unlike other masks it will not rub and pull on skin which is delicate.
    3. Sleepwear
A study which was reported in the journal Nature and Science of Sleep revealed that people fell asleep four minutes faster on average when wearing pyjamas made from merino wool rather than cotton. The fibres of Merino wool are softer, finer and more sensitive than other fabrics as the diameter of the wool is consistently microscopic, ranging from 11.5 micros to about 24 microns. Get a pair to feel the extra added comfort and the effect this has on your sleep.
    4. Mattress Topper
Mattress toppers add a refined finishing touch to your mattress and make for a seamless sleep. It is designed to add a layer of luxury or can be used to add life to an old one. A good quality mattress topper can change the entire feel of your bed, with some making it firmer for back sleepers, softer for front sleepers and all-round comfort for side sleepers. The Trendy mattress topper is infused with recycled cotton denim and organic lambswool to provide a medium-soft addition to your mattress.
    5. Trustworthy duvet
Many of us still treat our bedding as an afterthought although sleep is incredibly important, and bedding needs to be a priority of care. Wool is commonly used in clothing but researches at the University of Sydney have found that sleeping on wool gives a 25% better sleep. Wool has the unique properties that regulate a controlled climate around the body and the moisture content. Not only does that mean a dry bed in the evening but the evaporation of moisture means there is no time for allergycausing moulds, bacteria and mites to enter your bed. The Organic Wool Duvet is amazing at regulating temperature, trapping heat when you need it and dispersing it when it’s done.
    6. Deodorant
Deodorant has an added use in your bedtime routine that many people are unaware of. It is recommended to apply deodorant before you sleep as it reduces sweat which can be a contributor to a restless night. As antiperspirants work by plugging the sweat glands, they still need time to form. The plugs have a better chance to develop if you spritz before bed with even your morning showers not affecting them.
    7. Humidify the skin
Before bed it is always vital to moisturise with your nightly application of cream, but this tip ensures that your skin stays hydrated all through the night. By sleeping with a humidifier on in your room you add the extra humidity to the surrounding air which pumps the dehydrated pores with dewy moisture. You can enjoy the benefits of a humidifier regardless of your lifestyle or living space, one with a cool mist is your best choice if you wish to sleep better wake up refreshed.
