American comedian Sam Morrison brings his one-man show ‘Sugar Daddy’ to Soho’s fabulous Boulevard Theatre.

For those of you who don’t know, a Sugar Daddy is typically a wealthy, older man who provides financial support (and lots of gifts) to a younger man in exchange for companionship and more! And Sam tells us in this short one hour show that not only does he want a Sugar daddy but he’s also attracted to the ‘bear’ type – a large man with a big belly, and hairy. And Sam tells us he met exactly this, in the U.S. gay mecca Provincetown (where the straights stick out like a sore thumb). But Covid hits, and the in-love couple retreat to Sam’s grandmothers house in upstate New York (while Gran stays in Florida). Another but – the boyfriend gets sick with Covid and Sugar Daddy is no longer what we were expecting – a humorous tale of Sam chubby chasing. The story gets dark, with talk of ashes and memories and going back to where it all began.
Morrison, who on stage self describes himself as a gay comedian with dyslexic and ADHD, came up in the NYC comedy club scene and evidently made some big connections: Sugar Daddy (which was performed in Edinburgh in 2022) is co-produced by Billy Porter and Alan Cumming. The show has a clever marketing campaign/poster but it wasn’t remarkable nor a raucous riot. And Sugar Daddy deserves to be in a more intimate venue where the audience can feel a closer to/with Sam (as he did in Edinburgh). Overall, Sugar Daddy is brutally honest, raw, and with Sam commanding the stage throughout.
