The Black Cap in Camden has welcomed renewed recognition of its extraordinary cultural legacy, following Denise Welch’s emotional tribute to her late father during a standout performance at Mighty Hoopla.
During her set, Welch spoke about her father, Vin, a lifelong performer with a love of drag, recalling how she was introduced to London’s LGBTQ+ cabaret scene at a young age – including visits to The Black Cap, one of the capital’s most historic venues for drag and live performance.
Her remarks, widely reported across national media, underline the venue’s long-standing place not only in entertainment history, but in the personal stories of performers, allies and audiences who have passed through its doors over generations.
