The Football Monologues A love letter from film to football by writer-director Greg Cruttwell

Greg Cruttwell’s UK drama THE FOOTBALL MONOLOGUES, which will be in cinemas in UK and Ireland from Friday 22nd October 2021, launches its trailer and poster ahead of its release.

The Football Monologues tells the stories of seven different people living in and around the beautiful game.

Amongst our subjects are Kimberly (Emma Amos: Vera Drake), a straight-talking, no-nonsense businesswoman; experienced referee Colin (Mark Hadfield: Wallander), a man in his late 50’s who’s a stickler for the rules, and Mark (Samuel Anderson: Gunpowder Milkshake, Doctor Who, The History Boys), a professional player who should be in his prime but is feeling the pressure.

Constructed with a ‘talking heads’-style narrative, The Football Monologues follows its characters as they talk intimately to the camera, unveiling their innermost hopes and fears. Through their relationship with the game, they touch on themes central to us all: the fragility of our mental selves, the failings of our bodies, the complexities of our relationships and ambitions, and our need to connect.
