WHITE STUDIO is the hub that gathers the new frontiers of the Asian cutting-edge womenswear, acclaimed by celebrities and with solid social media presence.
Making the most of the international creativity and innovation has driven WHITE MILANO to purse its scouting activity in the Far East too, above all, in China. Indeed, this year too, the Asian fashion design is all set to land at White Show with a striking contingent of talents. WHITE STUDIO, the hub for artists in residence, is home to the creative expressions of YOUPPIE!, Damowang, Selah, Pingsi Zhou and AMNUE. In September 2019 the appointment is in Tortona 54, at Ex Ansaldo | BASE.
Founded in 2013 by designer Melon, YOUPPIE! is a brand that, in a matter of few years, has grabbed the attention of Chinese celebrities like Leah Dou, Qi Wei, Ouyang Na Na, Wang He Li, Tong Yao, Yuan Shanshan, Huang Xuan. The designer believes in the connection between fashion and people and is constantly looking for original and unique interpretations for her creations. In the 2020 Spring/Summer, the brand explores the connections between present and future, taking its fashion to the digital era. Please Wait, that’s the name of the collection, is a free interpretation of the digital era, where shiny and reflecting fabrics, PVC and prints cast the garments on a parallel and hyperconnected dimension.
Damo and Alex.Wang launched Damowang in 2015. The label, with marked Neo-Classic flair, reinterprets the post-industrial design to encourage the women who wear it to be independent and original. The brand can currently rely on a few flagship stores and a distribution network in high-end multibrand stores, e.g. I.T and Opening Ceremony. For the 2020 summer, the brand draws inspiration from Chinese fantasy literature, Wuxia, rich in martial arts exploits set in ancient China.
Selah mingles street culture, street art and romanticism for a mix-and-match capable of interpreting the new generations’ contemporary mood. Pingsi Zhou is the creative upshot of designers Pingsi and Tang Wei who, in 2017, founded this label in Canada to represent, through creativity, the emotion and candour of childhood memories. The philosophy of the Absurd and the sculptures by Austrian artist Erwin Wurm have inspired the Spring/Summer 2020 collection. The unfinished and the deliberate imperfections are the cues for a reflection on the transience of the world.
AMNUE explores the boundaries of unisex and the multiplicity of today’s women, who are gentle and passionate, classic and contemporary, smart and nonchalant. This multiplicity mirrors the diverse souls of the team of designers, whose professional backgrounds and expertise, ranging from architecture to painting and photography, thrive and merge in the brand. The inspiration for the 2020 Spring/Summer are the paintings by Dutch artist Lawrence Alma-Tadema, which lend a distinctive flair to a collection featuring soft, soothing shades and sartorial cuts.
