Resist what doesn’t make sense, resist what you don’t understand. RESIST what is WRONG.

VIN + OMI’s AW20 collection pushes the boundaries of eco and sustainable fashion. For this season were exploring new collaborations and ways of working. The collection represents our ongoing work and multiple sustainable projects and collaborations.

Our work with Prince Charles and Highgrove continues. We look at the waste products produced by large country estates and experiment with how we can turn that into textile and fashion. Dead hydrangea heads combined with latex and linen produce jackets: waste garden bags become reusable bags. We weave willow and ash cuttings into baskets using local craftsmen and wood pulp from tree clippings is mixed with raw flax to produce a more durable linen.

Following on with our policy to only use new animal products that are ‘comfort clipped’ from pet animals, we are using piebald horsehair on the catwalk that has been clipped from one of the private horses at Highgrove. The hair is woven into dresses and a jacket.

We are continuing our exploration of using waste nettles from Highgrove and have naturally dyed the nettle and incorporated it into the collection. It also forms the words RESIST on our finale dress which is specially created for the National Museum of Scotland.

With the Tokyo Olympics fast approaching, we are looking at ways in which we can recycle old Team GB kit. Olympic fencing equipment and kit, mixes with sails and clothing from the sailing team. We want to explore how the Olympics can work harder to move towards zero waste in every aspect of the event.

As early pioneers of developing rPET textile from salvaged plastic bottles, VIN + OMI are continuing to work with large businesses and industry to develop visible and practical ways of utilising their waste.  We’ve worked used large scale vinyl film posters into dresses and a coat from our partner, leading outdoor digital advertisers, Ocean Outdoor who champion sustainable approaches throughout their operations.

On the catwalk are scarves designed by VIN + OMI for our hosts. The Savoy, as part of a programme as creative sustainable consultants to the hotel. The scarves are made from recycled plastic bottles from the hotel and will be sold in the gift shop.

Leading art brand Daler Rowney are working with us to develop new ways of working sustainably. Dresses on the catwalk are made from their recycled paint tubes. We also work with Daler Rowney in a variety of ways incorporating their products into the clothing an on the set design.

London’s tailor Mr Start have also worked with VIN + OMI to look at ways in which their suits and knitwear can be up cycled into new garments. You will see our collaboration jackets, dresses and scarves bouncing down the catwalk.
