This Black History Month, Graduate Fashion Week Alumni – Tihara Smith is on a mission to share with the world what makes us ‘Black & Beautiful’.
As well as using this month to celebrate the contributions of historical and famous figures in the UK, this Black History Month, Tihara Smith thought it would be the perfect opportunity to also celebrate each other and the smaller contributions that black people make that all add up together to make a big difference.
Throughout the month of October, Tihara wants to celebrate what makes those from the black community ‘Black & Beautiful’. Not only because of all the beautiful shades and hair textures but also the culture, achievements and positive contributions on every level, be that big or small. From the obvious successful celebrities, black entrepreneurs, social activists, teachers, authors, journalists, scientists, artists, designers – to the unsung heroes who in their daily lives make a difference to their communities, shifting negative perceptions and stereotypes.
To help drive this activity, Tihara has launched an Instagram campaign, where she will be giving away a ‘Black & Beautiful’ gift set that includes a ‘Black & Beautiful’ pin and postcard set. Entrants simply need to tag someone who embodies what ‘Black & Beautiful’ means to them and explain why.
