Situated in the leafy surroundings of lovely Northamptonshire lies a mouth watering treat that is a newly opened restaurant and drive through and that brings the southern delights of Louisiana here to the UK.
Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen is the latest edition of amazing restaurants Central to Northampton and I have to say I am so glad to have tasted such delicious and mouth watering, full of flavour chicken.
Located opposite Northampton’s Sixfields Stadium is the world famous Popeye’s restaurant and drive through. You can’t miss this place as it is neon orange and is also lit up neon orange at night.
The menu may not be as extensive as other dining restaurants but their menu is certainly as the saying goes ‘quality over quantity’.
Whether you are after a small snack, a singular item or a delicious meal there is something for everyone and where their menu caters for people of both meat and vegetarian tastes. The menu items range from chicken burgers to chicken deluxe burgers to hot wings to chicken tenders as well as their world famous luisiana crispy fried chicken.
You should check out their wraps as these are very fresh and contain crispy chicken with lettuce and tomato and a beautiful sauce -they are well worth it and are a generous size as well. You can purchase any of the above on their own or as a meal and the chicken comes in various piece portion sizes.
Now if that doesn’t sound delicious enough, let me explain to you about their fries…
Firstly, the fries are non-greasy and the portions are substantial even for a standard size. The fries do come in two types; they are standard Popeye’s fries which let me just add are not your plain salted fries, they are nicely coated and if you are feeling a little bit more adventurous, why not be sure to check out the cajun seasoned fries these are seasoned with blackened Cajun – these are truly scrumptious. Fries come in standard size and large size and a perfect for sharing if there’s a few of you eating.
Rest assured if you do not eat meat and are more of a fan of the vegetarian foods then there is a delicious Creole Bean burger on the menu which is juicy, full of flavour and has the right hits of taste due to its perfect combination of ingredients.
I don’t normally talk about condiments but with Popeye’s I feel it would be a shame to miss out as they have their own range of sauces which I have to say come in top position and knock all the other restaurants off the top spot as their sauces are everything you could want when it comes to accompaniments with your food. The sauces range from bold BBQ to mango habanero to voodoo sweet chilli, to ranch style sauce – these have to be my top four favorites and I absolutely recommend these with any of your meals.
Aside from the main menu mains, there is a snack menu where you can opt for smaller size meals and then there’s the all-important side dishes. So, it’s not often you can go to a chicken shop and find such authentic home style dishes and on what I am referring to is their beautifully crafted mac and cheese, another favourite of mine is the cajun gravy and if you fancy something more home style in the sense of Louisiana kitchen food, be sure to indulge in their biscuit. If I was to describe this to you I would say it’s like a plain scone but where you can have it accompanied with Nutella or gravy and I have to say both of these are delicious options. A versatile item that’s for sure as you can have it with your meal or as a dessert.
The inside of the restaurant is extremely airy and fresh, it’s got a beautifully bright vibrant atmosphere to it lots of popping colours and where the soft drinks are refillable and come in over 20 different varieties.
If you don’t quite fancy a fizzy drink there are other options and then there are the milkshakes….These range from the usual chocolate, strawberry vanilla flavors moving on to the more exciting flavours such as Oreo, Lotus Biscoff, Strawberry Cheesecake and Mocha. Please note some of these are limited edition so make sure you catch them while you can.
There are a few options when ordering your food, you can dine in or you can take away or if you’re within the vicinity you can also have the food delivered to you via a third party company. Attached to the restaurant is also the drive through which is perfect for grabbing a delicious breakfast lunch or dinner, it’s hassle free quick and the staff are absolutely fabulous.
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the level of service when dining in at Popeye’s, the staff are on hand to explain further about the menu options and they also provided recommendations and where very welcoming during my visit. The manager also went out of his way to ensure that we left happy customers which we certainly did and I would definitely recommend Popeye’s to fans of chicken but also those wanting to try some authentic Southern American food.
