Cats is a spectacle!
If you’ve never seen the one of the longest running show on Broadway – now’s your chance to see Cats – it’s playing at the Regents Park Open Air Theatre until September 19, 2026.
Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber created this show massive cultural phenomenon in 1997 and it’s been playing on theatre circuits ever since. It’s a simple story about cats attending a jellicle ball (a mystical, annual midnight gathering where cats meet up to do their cat thing).
Then one cat is chosen to be the chosen one – the special one. And on the absolutely beautiful stage of Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre we feel like we are a part of the gathering as well. Cats (actors) prey and prance, besides on the stage, they are also around both sides of the stage and in the aisles, and as dusk settles and it becomes dark, the trees and the lighting all become part of the show, where the cats disappear into and enter from (as real cats do). It’s a cast of 30, and it’s never a dull moment as they work hard and are always on their toes, leaping, jumping and singing all throughout. But it’s the choreography (which is amazing) that will blow your paws off. Throughout all the numbers, the actors all dance in sync with each other – it’s actually breathtaking! And while it’s not a perfect perfect production (I had an issue with some of the younger cats as they looked too young for me to believe the lyrics they were singing), it’s an amazing production.
Even if you’re allergic to cats like I am you’ll thoroughly enjoy this production – it’s the cat’s meow.
