The astonishing young singer Malakai, has had an incredible year, taking the world by storm with his showstopping appearances on Britain’s Got Talent and hitting headlines with the news of his record deal with Universal Music, his Number 1 in the UK’s Official Classical Album Chart for 3 consecutive weeks and a Number 1 in the US Billboard Traditional Classical Albums Chart for his debut album ‘Golden’. Now Malakai announces a special performance at the iconic BBC Proms for Prom 69 at the Royal Albert Hall on Thursday 7th September.
Malakai will join the French orchestra & choir Pygmalion, under the direction of Raphaël Pichon, in a performance of Mozart’s Requiem. The concert will present an alternative vision of Mozart’s Requiem, famously left incomplete at the composer’s death, exploring the musical sources for his final masterpiece. Malakai will sing the Traditional Plainsong ‘In Paradisum’ and Mozart’s ‘Solfeggio’, written for the composer’s wife as a vocal exercise and then incorporated into the Introit of the Requiem.
Malakai’s chart-topping album Golden is out now via Universal Classics & Jazz in association with Classic FM and features impressive collaborations with world-famous composers Lord Lloyd Webber and Sir Karl Jenkins. Listen to Golden here.
