The iconic French singer Françoise Hardy has died at the age of 80. If there was one French pop stars famous in the UK during the Swinging Sixties, undoubtedly Françoise Hardy was the one.
Not only she was as singer with her unforgettable soft voice and catchy tunes, but she was also a fashion icon. She had a couple of big hits in the UK. She also seemed to have cast a spell over several artists of that era including Mick Jagger and Bob Dylan. Her big 60s hit, “Comment the dire adieu” (It hurts so say goodbye) was written by Serge Gainsbourg and became a hit once again with Jimmy Sommerville 1989’s cover.

No need to say that Hardy’s classy French style captivated fashion designers and she became a model for -Courrèges, Saint Laurent and Paco Rabanne outfits that would perfectly match her figure. The latter designed an iconic minidress out of gold plates for her. This was the perfect combination to make her play an important part in the 60s post war scene that combined a music revolution with freedom, fun fashion and new trends.
Hardy became famous on to the music scene in 1962 and was known for her melancholy ballads. One of her most famous songs was “Comment te dire Adieu”. She collaborated with a number of artists, including Blur and Iggy Pop.
