Richard Riakporhe was set to take on his sixth opponent on the 1st of December 2017, at the mecca of small hall boxing, the York Hall, Bethnal Green, televised on FreeSports Channel available on Freeview, TalkTalk, BT, and FreeSat.
In the run up to the fight one opponent after the other pulled out, the latest one from the heavyweight devision, which resulted in Riakporhes fight to be cancelled.
The gutted cruiserweight released a statement on social media to inform his fans:
I regret to inform you all that my fight tomorrow has been canceled as my opponent withdrew himself from the contest due to unforeseen circumstances. I have trained extremely hard for this fight and have made extensive sacrifices in order to win my 6th contest and I’m absolutely gutted that all of you who made plans and sacrifices to come and watch me in action will not get to see me perform tomorrow. For all those who made ticket purchases will be issued a full refund and will keep you all updated on my next fight which should be real soon.
South Londoner Riakporhe, sponsored by the prestigious five-star Rafayel Hotel in Battersea, is now 27 and entered the professional ranks of boxing in August 2016. He has stopped all of his adversaries since going pro. Keen to add to his explosive ring reputation, he is single mindedly moving in on to those all-important title contests that lay ahead.
Richard who is honing his skill sparring with the likes of Dillian Whyte, Anthony Joshua, Chris Eubank Jr., Issac Chamberlain, Ian Lewis and Mateusz Masternak.
He says: “Chris Eubank Snr. advised me once ‘you don’t want to spar with someone who doesn’t challenge you, your sparring sessions are suppose to be hard and prepare you for the fight! I have taken that to heart and try to apply it at any given opportunity.”
Considered by many inside and out of the ring as a genuine prospect with talent and venom in his punches, 2018 could surely be a pivotal year for his reputation and career to move to the next level of competition in possibly the world’s toughest sport.
