Perth WA – January 2025 – Eco Fashion Week Australia (EFWA) is made history as it kicked off EFWA 2024 ‘Closet Of The Anthropocene’ with an ambitious world record for the longest sustainable fashion runway on water, set against the backdrop of the renowned Busselton Jetty on 1st November 2024 . This groundbreaking event futured an extraordinary showcase of sustainable samples over 50 designers, representing both Australian and international talents.
The world record breaking opening parade took place on the 1.8 km-long Busselton Jetty – the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. Extending into the pristine waters of Geographe Bay, this iconic structure provided a breathtaking stage for designers from across Australia, including 31 Western Australian designers and 4 local community groups, alongside participants from South Australia, Victoria, Queensland, ACT, and New South Wales. Additionally, international collections from Canada, the UK, Italy, Spain, the USA, Indonesia, Colombia, and the Czech Republic featured, further elevating this global celebration of sustainable fashion.
As the world increasingly turns its attention to sustainability, EFWA continues to lead the charge within the fashion industry by spotlighting innovative approaches to eco-conscious design. This world record attempt reflected not only the scale of ambition behind EFWA but also the commitment to promoting environmentally responsible fashion on a global stage.
A month-long festival dedicated to sustainable fashion with two Runway fashion Weeks , first is during the opening Week in Busselton and second Fashion Week in Perth as well as Art exhibitions ( Fashion Art Exhibition, Textile Art Exhibition from Barcelona, Community Art Exhibition ) with community events focus on sustainability such as Workshops, Artist Talks, Clothes Swaps , Repair Cafes, Seminar, Theatre, music and Dance . With stunning collections and a remarkable two weeks of runway shows that symbolised the intersection of creativity and sustainability, this inspiring event is captured the attention of fashion enthusiasts and environmental advocates alike.
About Eco Fashion Week Australia:
EFWA is an artist-run initiative founded by Perth,WA based Visual artist Zuhal Kuvan-Mills. EFWA is for everyone and features events in both Busselton and Perth such as fashion art runway shows, exhibitions, workshops, artist talks, seminars as well as Anita Moon Award of Excellence, Upcycle Challenge and present student designer shows by collaborating with educational establishments.
The Sustainable Fashion Festival in 2024 presented ‘Closet of the Anthropocene’ to showcase the collections of over 50 international and Australian designers and diverse community groups, who source sustainable materials and textiles to create unique pieces.
About Busselton Jetty
The Busselton Jetty is one of the most recognisable icons in Western Australia. It currently stands at 1.8km in length extending over the protected Geographe Bay making it the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere.
The Jetty is now used exclusively for tourism and recreation but it has a full and historic past as a working jetty.
Construction of the Busselton Jetty began in 1865. Beginning as a mere 161 metres with an additional 131 metres being added in 1875. Further extensions were made throughout the following 150 years creating the remarkable 1.8 kilometre length.
