LONDON, 25 October 2026: This October edition of MCM London Comic Con came to a close with a spectacular programme including a Resident Evil castpanel and Q&A; a celebration of the iconic franchise’s new game, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, almost 30 years since the debut game launched; spotlight on Mackenyu, the actor bringing One Piece: Live Action’s Zoro to life; and authors Patrick Ness, Peter F. Hamilton, Alwyn Hamilton, Garth Nix and more shared insights into how they created your favourite sci-fi stories and speculative fiction.
Shouting out the event as one of the largest audiences they’ve ever spoken to, the cast answered questions about their creative inspirations, experiences with motion capture, and their favourite modified skins. On how it felt to play Leon and carrying the legacy of portrayals before him, Nick said “I was a fan of Leon for 18 years before I auditioned for him. I was intimately familiar with Paul Haddad’s work, Paul Mercier’s work, Matthew Mercer, and I’m happy to call them all friends. […] I have stood on the shoulders of giants, and I’ve thanked each and every one for them for making fall in love with this character almost two decades before I auditioned to be him.”
Almost exactly 30 years after the launch of the debut game, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis sawAlix Wilton Regan, Raul Siqueira, and Arek Tomaszewski explore the evolution of the iconic video game franchise. The panel discussed the casting process, during which Alix injured herself by throwing herself into a door while auditioning and subsequently had to keep the role secret from family and friends for three years. They also explored the development of the new game, with Raul pointing out that “we use the word reimagination with a purpose”, where iconic moments are preserved but opportunities to “colour outside the lines” were taken.
At Sci-Fi Worldbuilding: Letting Your Imagination Run Wild, authors Patrick Ness, Ren Hutchings, Peter F. Hamilton and Moira Buffini conducted a deep-dive into the craft of worldbuilding with moderator Amy McCaw. The panellists spoke to the role of Sci-Fi in reflecting or navigating current issues, divulged the secrets behind their drafting and editing processes, and shared their best advice for aspiring authors. All authors shared their unique approach to worldbuilding: Patrick believes that “Less is more; trust your reader”, Ren leads with characters and allows readers to undertake “the journey of learning alongside them”, Peter works outwards from a central “spark”, which is often the story’s key conflict, and Moira operates with a “character-centric wat of creating a world”, building outwards from that foundation.
The actors and lead game writer behind the award-winning game gathered at Inside The World OfClair Obscur: Expedition 33to discuss the art of bringing a game to life. The conversation was packed with fun facts and exciting anecdotes about the characters, cast, and development of the game. Meanwhile, Mackenyu made his first appearance at MCM Comic Con – and visit to London – to speak about portrayal of Zoro in One Piece: Live Action; his philosophy in respecting the manga and anime when making character decisions; his preference for performing action scenes over comedy; and recommendations for any fans visiting Tokyo.
