Dubrovnik, 28 August 2026 – One of the world’s greatest tenors, José Carreras, performed last night in front of Dubrovnik Cathedral, delivering an unforgettable evening of exceptional music, emotion and timeless melodies.
The legendary Spanish tenor performed alongside the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Giménez, with acclaimed soprano Dušica Bijelić as a special guest.
Held on the plateau in front of Dubrovnik Cathedral, the concert brought together world-class artistry and the city’s unique historical and architectural setting. Carreras presented a diverse programme spanning opera classics, Italian and Spanish musical treasures, Neapolitan songs and timeless melodies that have defined his extraordinary international career.
Among the highlights were his performances of the Neapolitan song “Dicitencello vuie”, the passionate “Passione” and the legendary “Granada”, a piece that has for decades been a signature of the world’s greatest tenors. The audience was further delighted by special musical surprises towards the end of the evening, including “O sole mio” and “My Way”, which were met with enthusiastic applause and ovations.
The performances by Carreras and Dušica Bijelić, accompanied by the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, were enhanced by the atmospheric lighting and the monumental architecture of the Cathedral and Dubrovnik’s historic centre, creating a uniquely spectacular setting for the evening.
Mayor of Dubrovnik Mato Franković highlighted the significance of the event and its connection to the city’s cultural identity:

Ahead of the concert, Carreras himself spoke about the special atmosphere created by Dubrovnik’s history, architecture and Mediterranean setting.
“There are places where the setting and the surroundings inevitably become part of the musical experience, both for the artist and the audience, and I believe Dubrovnik is certainly one of those places.”
Last night’s performance proved precisely that, bringing together one of the world’s most celebrated opera artists and a city whose cultural and historical heritage has made it one of the Mediterranean’s most recognisable destinations.
For Carreras, who has enjoyed a career spanning more than five decades on the world’s most prestigious opera stages and in leading concert halls, the Dubrovnik performance also marked his first visit to the city. He is particularly well known to audiences around the world as one of the legendary Three Tenors, alongside Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti.
