The immersive project Katàbasis, created by Ugo Arsac, has won the Best Immersive Work Award at the 79th Cannes Film Festival. The award was presented on May 21 during the festival’s immersive showcase at the Plage des Palmes.
The Immersive Competition Jury also presented a Special Jury Mention to The Black Mirror Experience, created by David Bardos and Damià Ferràndiz.
The immersive competition jury was chaired by Blanca Li and included Céline Tricart, Michel van der Aa, Mary Matheson, and Hsin-Chien Huang.
Speaking about the winning project, Blanca Li praised Katàbasis as “a magnificent immersive work, deeply human, authentic and emotionally powerful,” adding that it reconnects audiences “with what binds together seemingly ordinary human beings.”
The Immersive Competition returned for its third edition this year and was hosted at the Carlton Cannes. The showcase welcomed up to 200 guests per presentation and recorded more than 3,000 bookings during the festival.
This year’s official immersive selection featured nine projects competing from eight different countries, highlighting the growing global interest in immersive storytelling and virtual experiences at the Cannes Film Festival.
