Artist and designer Mei-Hui Liu invites visitors to rediscover the creative spirit of East London through Memory Land: Spitalfields, a personal exhibition hosted at House of Annetta.

Before Spitalfields became a fashionable destination, it was a thriving neighbourhood of independent designers, artists, migrants and creative outsiders. The exhibition revisits this vibrant period, exploring the people, places and experiences that shaped Mei’s artistic journey.
Through a collection of archival photographs, garments, installations and personal stories, Mei reflects on her beginnings in the neighbourhood during the late 1990s and the opening of Victim Fashion Street in 2001. Her work captures a time when fashion was not simply about clothing, but a powerful form of individuality, cultural expression and creative freedom.
As Spitalfields continues to evolve, Memory Land offers a nostalgic yet meaningful perspective on the neighbourhood’s transformation. It celebrates the friendships, communities and independent creative voices that contributed to East London’s distinctive cultural identity.

Set within the historic House of Annetta, the exhibition creates a connection between personal memories and the wider history of the area.
Kitty Noofah, Beauty Editor, and Christine De Oliveira, Photographer, cover the event on behalf of FABUK Magazine, capturing the exhibition’s celebration of fashion, art and East London’s rich creative heritage.
More than a retrospective, Memory Land: Spitalfields is a tribute to creativity, migration, friendship and reinvention — reminding us that behind every changing neighbourhood are stories worth remembering.
