Miyako- Japanese cuisine in the elegance of London.

London is full of amazing hidden gems and located in the heart of London’s Liverpool Street within the 5 star Andaz hotel is the beautiful Miyako.
Miyako is the perfect place to go for anyone who loves Japanese cuisine in all its glory.

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised as sometimes restaurants are very much overhyped but this one was perfectly suited and nestled within the five star Andaz Hotel (also accessible from the street), the quality of the restaurant, service and food shon through. Miyako have a very extensive menu of the finest of Japanese foods ranging from sushi, sashimi, maki rolls, tempura, salads, bento boxes and of course the special and traditional hot dishes and curries. There really is something for everyone and I have to admit I’m not a fan of raw fish, however having the rice rolls and a Maki rolls as well as the salmon and chicken teriyaki curries and the tempura section, there was plenty on the menu for me.

For starters, we decided to try out some Edamame, some Avacado Maki rolls (6 pieces) as well as the Inside Out rolls (6 pieces). The rolls were absolutely amazing and full of taste they were very good size and I would highly recommend these flavours for anyone wanting to try something a little bit different. We opted for the Spicy Edamame which wasn’t too spicy but was a little bit more tasty than just plain. The Spicy edamame came in a big ball and was plenty for two if not three people alongside some other starters.

After having starters there was the feeling of already becoming a little bit full which was the perfect excuse to just relax and wait for the food to go down before ordering the mains. For the main courses we decided to try the salmon teriyaki and the chicken karraje. The salmon was cooked perfectly and was in a beautiful teriyaki sauce topped with some sesame seeds and served with a few pieces of broccoli and a salad – it was the perfect maincourse and in fact not too heavy but completely healthy.

There are a couple of traditional Japanese deserts on offer and we had the Mochi which consisted of a few rice balls served with ice cream which was something I’ve never tried before but would definitely recommend and I absolutely loved the difference in taste and the texture of them.

If you are with a few people and fancy a wide variety of foods without breaking the bank, I would certainly recommend giving their bottomless late lunch a go!!! This gives you a huge selection of dishes to try which is in the form of eat as much as you like,  So it’s perfect for hungry stomachs and let you try all your favourites for a set price per person during the week. There is also a weekend menu available as well for lunch. Do check out the website for further details and timings.

Overall, I have to say that our lunch date at Miyako was absolutely fabulous and considering it’s in the financial district of London, it was a really relaxed restaurant and the views were stunning so it was nice to just watch the world go by. The portions were very generous and I feel that the pricing in fact was extremely reasonable compare to some of the sushi restaurants that you can go to in London with prices I feel are a lot more expensive elsewhere.

The food was full of taste and the service was lovely with recommendations on hand should you need them. I would highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or even dinner – they also have an extensive drinks menu where you can sample some of the finest Japanese Saki as well as your usual beers and soft drinks.
