She had undoubtedly a style that was unmatched and tributes poured in from all over the world when Jane Birkin passed away on 16 July 2023, No need to say that her voice will go on resonating with the song Je t’aime… moi non plus, a hit bathed in scandal.
The song was originally written for Brigitte Bardot in 1967 but stayed unreleased for many years as Bardot was married at the time. Birkin recorded the ultra erotic song that would be banned by the BBC and deplored by the Vatican. Whether on TV shows or in movies, there had been since then a je ne sais quoi in Birkin’s presence and voice that made her loved by the French audience.
More than that, her musical career lasted for decades, not to mention her successful career in the movie industry. She was a unique artist with a stunning presence that would make French people unanimous when saying “Je l’aime” (I love her)
