Riona Treacy is a London based luxury womenswear brand. The designer Riona who is originally from Belfast studied Fashion and then completed her MA in Textiles, before moving to London to work with major brands within the industry like Alexander McQueen and Mary Karantzou.
For SS20, Summer evokes memories of glorious summers past. This season Riona Treacy’s collection is inspired by childhood summers, of endless days and boundless daydreams. Riona has pieced together fragments of her childhood memories: the cool dampness of a verdant Irish summer, sewing dresses for the tooth fairy in her granny’s rockery garden and fashioning tiny hand-written business cards from yellow post-it notes. These childish misspelt notes read ‘Riona Treacy Fashion Designer’ – one of which is framed in her studio today. The colour palette for SS20 is a combination of fresh blend bright yellows, powder blue, greens and neutral tones while the soft subtle prints conjure up hazy summer days and leafy greens, taken from hand-dyed fabrics using shibori, Riona Treacy’s signature style.
There is an almost origami-like aesthetic running through the collection, where the square shape of the post-it note is frequently referenced through alternative tailoring and the unexpected draping of right angles. A great example of this pared-back aesthetic is our asymmetrical Rhombus Dress, crafted from one continual square piece of fabric and cleverly draped across the body to create a flattering silhouette.
Each piece in the collection was designed with comfort and versatility in mind. Understated elegance and relaxed shapes make them perfect for wearing during the day or dressing up at night. All of Riona Treacy’s pieces are designed, printed and made in London.
