SONGZIO AW17: MISANTHROPE

SONGZIO AW17: MISANTHROPE
LONDON, 9th January 2017 –  Internationally acclaimed South Korean designer, SONGZIO presents the AW17 collection entitled “Misanthrope” at London Fashion Week Men’s. This season marks the brand’s second UK showcase outside of the Paris and Seoul fashion weeks.
Blurring the boundaries of fashion and art and continuing with the concept, ‘Paint on Black’, each item of the collection emanates from the season’s original paintings, painted by the designer himself. The fusion of abstract art with modernist clothing is the brand’s unique signature style. From cold sharply tailored suits to romantic volumes, every season is another delicately curated exposition.
The AW17 collection – “Misanthrope”, visually depicts the story of a young man, walking the cold yet serene street on a eerie morning of an unknown city. This stern and almost ascetic young man immersed in his own high sense of beauty and life finds himself charmed and warmed by the winter lights piercing the cold mist of dawn. His heart warmed, touched and inspired, finds himself alone in the city’s false winter.

This collection presents SONGZIO’S most emblematic ‘cross look’, both through a direct visual representation in the “crossing strokes” painting as well as within the contrasting silhouettes. Free flowing shirts and voluminous trousers are countered and cocooned by long oversize black coats and capes that fall strongly from the shoulders. Each look represents the young misanthrope’s free and light conscience, cocooned by the heaviness of his own asceticism.

The result is a collection that is dramatic and bold yet balanced with delicate artworks, depicted through dark armour like outerwear and juxtaposed with light sensual, delicate art prints underneath. Dense knitwear from capes to voluminous bomber jackets in hues of brown and black are complimented by the warm touch of mustang patchwork. Art prints find themselves in both the inner wears as well as on leather jackets, bombers and in the linings of tailored jackets.

Designer Malan Breton launched his first runway show debut at London Fashion Week this past Sunday at the highly exclusive Freemason’s Hall, showcasing the second portion of the label’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection. Just last week, Breton showed during New York Fashion week, garnishing high media attention with fashion police’s Nene Leakes closing the show in addition to various other celebrity appearances from Mason Grammar to Tituss Burghess. In London, Breton managed to tone down the setting drastically, maintaining a highly exclusive and private audience of top UK and International editors, press, and VIP attendees. Freemason’s Hall, which holds approximately 250 guests, was the perfect setting with its vintage architectural design, crown molding, beautifully carved entry ways, and stunning sculptures that complimented Breton’s exquisitely embellished creations and couture gowns. The runway show, titled “Psyche” was a pathway into the soul of the House of Malan Breton. Both women and men stepped out onto the runway showcasing the diversity and different forms of talent the designer possesses. Complementing each other effortlessly, models walked out in pant-suits, bold blazers and capes, statement florals, and heavily embellished beading, which made this collection awe inspiring with an original yet cohesive feel. The overall elements of the show created the perfect setting for attendees to enter into Malan Breton’s captivating and magical world. To tie everything together, Breton closed the London show with the beautiful Sharon Rose who sang “Climb Every Mountain” as she gracefully paraded the runway in a silk chiffon printed couture gown while meeting him at the end of the runway.
