A woman with secrets suddenly appears out of nowhere and re-enters the lives of two ex lovers in the comedy The Marquise.
This 1930’s play, written by Noel Coward, known for his romantic farces (Private Lives, Blithe Spirit), is full of surprises, twists, fun, and a bit of drama.
You see, Adrienne (Eva O’Hara) and Miguel (Barnaby Tobias) are about to be married. The problem is that they are in love with other people. The only reason they are together is because their fathers – Count Raoul de Vriaac (Simon Shepherd) and Esteban el Duco (Tristan Gemmill) – are best friends. Suddenly the spirited Marquise Eloise de Kestournel bursts back into their lives and rights the wrongs and breaks some hearts along the way. And with a priest, Raouls loyal butler, and de Kestournel’s maid, it all comes together and in a pleasing way like all other Coward plays, in this two hour production.
Marquise is definitely worth a watch with a very talented cast but it’s only in Windsor for a few more days, then it tours Oxford Playhouse (Tuesday 9 – Saturday 13 June), Theatre Royal Bath (Tuesday 16 – Sunday 20 June), Yvonne Arnaud Theatre Guildford (Tuesday 23 – Saturday 27 June) and The Arts Theatre Cambridge (Tuesday 30 June – Saturday 4 July).
