Bedroom interior design is important. The decor of your personal sleeping space will say a lot about who you are deep down. Your bedroom also needs to be a calming and relaxing area that promotes rest and relaxation.

Here are seven top tips that will help you get the bedroom decor that you deserve and make your room a place where you can enjoy a night of deep and restful sleep.

    Settle on Your Style

Without a plan in place, you are not going to get the best from your bedroom decor. Do you want a light, minimalist style bedroom or a bold, luxurious boudoir?

You can use magazines, both online and off, to help inspire you and generate some ideas. Think about storage and organisation when you are making style and design choices. The bedroom should be a calming and comforting space, free of chaotic clutter.

    Choose Luxurious Furnishings

We spend a third of the day in bed if we are lucky. People will spend huge amounts of money furnishing their living room or bathroom and then cut back on the cash in the bedroom.

Furnishing your bedroom should be an excuse to spoil yourself a little.  The bed is a big part of the room and will set the style tone of your sleeping space. Choose a luxury designer bed for the highest levels of comfort and to make a style statement. Check out denelli.co.uk, an online Italian Furniture Store with gorgeous designer beds that suit any theme and offer comfort with extra storage.

Be Bolder with Your Colour Choices

Bedroom colours are always going to be a personal choice. The colours in your bedroom are an opportunity to express yourself and your tastes. You should choose bolder shades for a modern, luxurious, and decadent look.

Feature walls are fading from fashion. Having one wall or a chimney breast painted in a deep, bold colour is no longer enough. Paint a complete wall, or your complete wall, in a richer shade. Go dark if you want the decadent look using a deep, dark red and accenting with purples or gold.

    Pay Close Attention to Lighting

The bedroom spends a lot of its time being lit by artificial light. When you draw the curtains or open the blinds in the morning you may be bathed in sunlight. In the evening it is another story.

Light has more influence over us than we know. The harsh, bright light of an overhead bulb is not very relaxing. Bedrooms need lamps. There are plenty of lamps to choose from which will help accent your style but choosing the right lightbulbs will help you control the light in the room.

Low-wattage antique effect bulbs produce a warm light with an amber tinge. These look great in a decadent and luxurious space and create a lighting scheme that is relaxing and helps you get ready for bed.

Use Colours and Patterns that Complement Each Other

Patterned wallpaper or fabrics can be used to break up colours around the room. If you have opted for bold coloured walls, you can use patterned paper with a complimentary colour on a wall or alcove to tone things down a little if needed.

Patterned fabric on a headboard is also good for adding some style and flair to your bedroom. Your bedding should work with the decor too. Treat yourself to some new sheets that complement the space.

    Don’t Forget the Ceiling

Too many people make the mistake of forgetting the ceiling when they decorate. This is not too much of a problem for most rooms; you rarely look up. For a bedroom where you will lie down a see the ceiling, this is a different matter.

Wallpapering or painting a ceiling is a perfect way to add some drama to a room. It can help to make a bedroom stand out from the other rooms in the house and make it feel special. This can be tricky to get right. Use borders of a contrasting or complementary colour where the walls and ceiling meet. Doing this covers up any areas where wallpaper patterns do not align correctly between the two surfaces.

Put Some Art on Your Walls

Large art prints or photographs help make a bedroom feel more personal. You can express yourself by choosing your favourite art pieces or choosing new pictures that suit the colour scheme.

Black and white, blown-up photos are a classy addition to a wall. These can be ones you have taken yourself or prints of professional photos that convey a feeling or sense of place that you want in your room.

Follow these simple tips to get a better bedroom. Express yourself with your decorating style and make your sleeping space more personal. Get better sleep in the bedroom you deserve.
