Atieno Studio is bringing a contemporary perspective to African resort wear through crochet, craftsmanship and cultural storytelling. Rooted in Nairobi and inspired by the colour, rhythm and warmth of the Kenyan coast, the brand transforms traditional handcraft techniques into modern silhouettes created for a globally conscious audience.

Creative Director and CEO Bettydora Odhiambo combines artisanal crochet with contemporary summer dressing, placing texture, movement and hand-finished details at the centre of the brand’s design language. The result is a collection of pieces that balance an effortless aesthetic with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship.

Every garment and accessory is handcrafted by women artisans, using natural fibres and eco-conscious materials. This approach places community and traditional making techniques alongside contemporary fashion, creating designs that emphasise both individuality and craftsmanship.

Supported by the British Council Creative DNA 2026 programme, Atieno Studio forms part of a growing group of African designers bringing heritage craftsmanship into conversations around contemporary global fashion.

The brand’s work explores themes of femininity, identity and modern African elegance through resortwear collections characterised by texture, sculptural forms and a strong connection to the Kenyan coast.

Creative DNA x Studio Smithfield Residency

Bettydora Odhiambo is also a Creative DNA x Studio Smithfield residency delegate. The new peer-to-peer exchange residency programme brings together fashion designers from the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa to collaborate, share knowledge and develop long-term creative and professional relationships.

At Africa Fashion Week London 2026, Atieno Studio showcases its crochet-led approach to contemporary African resort wear, highlighting the intersection of artisanal craftsmanship, cultural heritage and modern design.
