Cannes, France – The Cannes Film Festival is set to light up the Croisette once again with the return of Cinéma de la Plage, a nightly open-air cinema event transforming Plage Macé, opposite the Majestic hotel, into a cinematic celebration under the stars.

Running alongside the main events of the 78th edition of the Festival, this beloved tradition is free and open to all, welcoming cinephiles and casual visitors alike for screenings that span world cinema classics, premieres, and restored gems. From May 13 to May 24, audiences can enjoy a global journey through cinema — from Japanese animation to Hollywood noir and European arthouse — all under the Cannes night sky.
Kicking off on May 13, Terrence Malick’s A Hidden Life opens the program, followed by a newly restored 4K version of John Woo’s iconic Hard Boiled on May 14, presented by Shout! Studios. French cinema gets a spotlight with Les Mauvais Coups on May 15, while May 16 features the grand 1946 epic Duel in the Sun, restored with support from The Film Foundation, thanks to Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.
May 17 brings a Cannes original: The Legend of the Palme d’Or Continues, a new documentary by Alexis Veller, followed by Billy Wilder’s classic Sunset Blvd. in a meticulous 4K restoration.
The schedule continues with:
- Palombella Rossa by Nanni Moretti (May 18)
- Bardot, a reflection on Brigitte Bardot’s life and legacy (May 19)
- Mamoru Oshii’s surreal anime Angel’s Egg (May 20)
- John Schlesinger’s Darling (May 21)
- The world premiere of Ange by Tony Gatlif, preceded by a live concert (May 22)
- A mystery Surprise Film on May 23
- Culminating in Henri Verneuil’s Any Number Can Win (May 24)
Before each screening, audiences can enjoy an eclectic musical warm-up by TwinSelecter, a DJ duo spinning a mix of funk, soul, disco, jazz, and more to set the mood for the cinematic evenings.
From music and memories to masterpieces and restorations, Cinéma de la Plage 2025 promises an unforgettable journey through film — all with the sands of Cannes beneath your feet.
