Apple TV has released a sneak peek from the upcoming second season of its acclaimed sci-fi thriller “Dark Matter,” ahead of the series’ global premiere on Friday, August 28, 2026.
Starring and executive produced by Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly, the series is created by bestselling author Blake Crouch, who also serves as showrunner. The returning ensemble cast includes Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi, Oakes Fegley and Amanda Brugel.
Based on Crouch’s New York Times bestselling novel, the 10-episode second season will premiere globally on Apple TV with its first episode on August 28, followed by a new episode every Friday through October 30, 2026.
“Dark Matter” Season Two Expands the Story
The second season follows the Dessen family as they attempt to settle into a quieter life after the events of the first season. Their sense of security, however, is disrupted by circumstances that force them to confront the multiverse once again.
Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton) becomes increasingly obsessed with the Box, while Daniela (Jennifer Connelly) grows increasingly paranoid as their fragile stability begins to unravel.

Elsewhere, Amanda (Alice Braga) and Ryan (Jimmi Simpson) join forces in an effort to find their way home. Leighton (Dayo Okeniyi) continues pursuing his vision of creating a perfect world, while Blair (Amanda Brugel) is determined to stop him.
The series is based on Crouch’s novel, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and explores the consequences of the choices people make and the lives they might have lived.
In its first season, the story followed Jason Dessen, a physicist, professor and family man who is abducted while walking home through Chicago and transported into an alternate version of his life. His attempt to return to his own reality takes him through a complex multiverse of possible lives.
Episode 201: “A Quiet Life”
The season two premiere is titled “A Quiet Life.”
The official episode synopsis reads:
“The Dessens receive an unwelcomed visitor. Ryan finds Amanda. Leighton finds himself.”
