Summer’s here! Sending a quick visual update of my work over the last few months.
I had the lovely opportunity of documenting the Cockpit art open studio events over 4 days in June at Bloomsbury and Deptford. The two sites North and South of the river are home to many talented Designer makers. The Deptford site also had their opening of their new garden. I loved taking portraits of the makers in their studios and shots of the events and crowds..
Tania Clarke Hall had a really strong vision for her jewellery shoot with a model, we’d never worked together before but she sent me lots of images from film noir stills as lighting and pose references as well as images and information about each piece we’d be shooting. I was able to set up and test the lighting the day before to get close to what we were after and then fine tune it on the shoot day.
We had a month or two to find and decide on the model which was great as that’s one of the most important parts of this kind of shoot, we shot in my studio in East London.
Always a pleasure to work with Jonathan Field.
For the last few years we’ve used The Cove studio which is a huge white space allowing for deep dramatic gradients from black to white, I generally use constant (film lighting) for these shoots.
I’ve worked with Anne Marie Faulkner for years for her contemporary headpieces and veils for brides, we’ve produced some amazing images.
A few months ago we documented her artwork for her fine art MA in my studio.
Cat Hart’s jewellery reflects the connection she feels to the South African landscapes she grew up in.
It’s been lovely to photograph some of Cat’s beautiful work this year.
K2 Academy of Contemporary Jewellery commissioned me to photograph some of their students work. Students here learn new skills and traditional jewellery techniques whilst experimenting with a variety of different materials.
I photographed Jillian Knipe’s work for the first time a few months ago in the studio, I shot all the artwork on a plain white wall with a measured amount of shadow to the right and underneath each piece of artwork and then shot them again on the textured brick wall with the same amount of shadow.
I’ve been working with Bidyut for his company Dasmarca for many years, figuring out creative ways to shoot the new hat designs with and without models, this shot was taken at Shutterhouse studios in North London.
