M.J. Bale, the Australian menswear brand built around provenance, quality and a deep respect for natural fibres, makes its London debut this November with the opening of its first international flagship at 48–50 Jermyn Street, St James’s.

For a brand with more than 80 stores across Australia, this is more than an overseas expansion. M.J. Bale has chosen one of the world’s most recognisable menswear addresses for its first step beyond Australia. Nestled in the heart of St James’s, amid centuries of history, culture and craftsmanship, and surrounded by some of London’s finest galleries, restaurants and institutions, the flagship is intended as a destination in its own right.
Founded in Sydney in 2009 by Matt Jensen, M.J. Bale has established a reputation for doing menswear differently. Its collections combine contemporary Australian ease with an uncompromising approach to where clothes come from, how they are made and how long they are intended to last.
The new 2,636-square-foot Jermyn Street flagship, designed by Sydney-based Mandy Edge of Edge Design Studio, will occupy a prominent corner position within the newly developed 30 Duke Street St James’s building, (developed by Great Portland Estates (GPE). A six-metre ceiling height and dual-aspect corner frontage are complemented by reclaimed timber flooring from Cheshire, Dorset limestone, handcrafted hardware from North Devon, and awnings are also London supplied.

M.J. Bale’s design philosophy can be seen in its approach to wool, with Merino wool central to its collections, sourced through long-term relationships with farms across Australia and New Zealand and highly valued for its natural performance, durability and provenance.
Hero collections at launch will include the Kingston Made in Japan single-source wool tailoring collection, constructed by master tailor Kaneko Kenichi in Otaru, Hokkaido; the M.J. Bale x Lake Hāwea Station flannel suiting collection; Made in Italy tailoring pieces and a denim collection; and the Alpine-Active Merino wool ski collection, developed in partnership with JAAM Italia also using wool grown at Lake Hāwea Station in New Zealand’s Southern Alps.
The result is a wardrobe that feels distinctly of the moment without chasing fashion for fashion’s sake: tailoring, knitwear, outerwear and casualwear constructed from renewable, natural fibres, with an emphasis on durability and craftsmanship.

“To open on Jermyn Street is a significant milestone for M.J. Bale, and one we don’t take lightly,” says Matt Jensen, Founder and CEO of M.J. Bale. “This street has upheld the highest standards in menswear for more than three centuries. We’re excited to bring our design philosophy, deep commitment to provenance, natural fibres, regenerative farming and world-class craft to the UK. We hope Londoners and other international shoppers will find something genuinely worthwhile in what we’ve built; a beautiful space, a compelling narrative and high-quality garments that have a lasting place in the wardrobe.”
M.J. Bale opens in November 2026 at 48–50 Jermyn Street, St James’s, London SW1.
