MÜNN is a South Korean brand under the creative direction of Hyun Min Han. Founded in 2013 and based in Seoul, MÜNN is characterized by its philosophy of “Defamiliarization”.
This word of literary origin is then translated into fashion: from the concept to the designer’s intention, from the creation of the model to the irregular way of using the fabric, these processes all together suggest an original vision, made up of new and unusual details.
“We believe that the future of fashion must be rooted in transparency, inclusion, circularity and regeneration. An item of clothing should be able to be traced from its birth to the finished product; workers must be treated with dignity and respect and consumers understand the true cost and value of their clothing,” says Hyun-min Han, Creative Director of the brand. There are three fundamental values and founding principles of the brand: People, Planet and Prosperity.
All manufacturing processes, from the selection of raw materials to the final product, follow a sustainable path. Not solo. MUNN also gives concrete support to young designers by donating them carryover fabrics from past seasons. MUNN’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact has been a leitmotif of the brand since its birth: an example of this is the recycling of old football uniforms with curls and folds to create new draped garments, or the use of old second-hand ties, woven together to create a new coat. For London Fashion Week in 2020, waste fabrics were transformed into accessories.
More recently the brand signed a collaboration with Swarovski: the studs, crystals and pearls that were used in the collection are the result of a rigorous research and practice process which is part of the sustainability program of the South Korean brand. Hyun-min Han, Creative Director of the brand, graduated from the Samsung Art & Design Institute in Seoul, and gained experience working for well-known local brands Wooyoungmi and Leigh. His inspiration comes from the bespoke suits of the 1960s, then adapting the rigorous standards to contemporary processes and designs. With a team of qualified specialists, MUNN has made itself known, since its inception in 2013, for its innovation in revisiting and menswear.
