Fashion Meets Activism: Designer Lucy Tammam Unveils “One Dress: PLANET” at London Fashion Week to Raise Awareness Against Ecocide

Ecocide: A Crime Against the Earth
Ecocide, a term gaining traction worldwide, refers to the mass destruction of nature and is increasingly being recognized as a potential international crime. Spearheaded by Stop Ecocide International, the campaign to criminalize ecocide has garnered attention from governments across the globe. Since the launch of a formal legal definition in 2021, more than 27 countries, including Belgium, Peru, Brazil, and the European Union, have started addressing ecocide through national and regional legislation.
This movement aims to hold both business leaders and policymakers personally accountable for their roles in environmental degradation, promoting more responsible practices to prevent severe harm to the planet.
One Dress: PLANET – A Gown with a Message
TAMMAM’s “One Dress: PLANET” is not just a couture gown; it is a collaborative symbol of environmental protection. Adorned with hundreds of hand-embroidered flowers, each flora has been purchased by an individual as a commitment to protecting the Earth. These contributors become co-owners of the dress, signifying their participation in the movement to criminalize ecocide.
The dress will make its debut at Tammam’s annual London Fashion Week catwalk show before embarking on a global tour to raise awareness at climate events worldwide.
A Call to Action Through Fashion
Lucy Tammam, a vocal advocate for sustainable fashion, believes that the fashion industry plays a crucial role in addressing the climate crisis. “Clothing is the best way to start a conversation,” she says. “One Dress: PLANET is a powerful tool to spark discussions about ecocide and the urgent need for legislative change.”
Through this unique platform, Tammam hopes to engage a broader audience in pressing environmental issues, encouraging not just awareness, but action.
Joining the Movement: A Global Collaboration
Jojo Mehta, CEO of Stop Ecocide International, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. “We are thrilled to collaborate with the trailblazing British sustainable couture fashion label TAMMAM on the One Dress: PLANET project. Establishing ecocide as a crime will provide a legal safety rail for the fashion industry, deterring the worst harms to nature and filling the gaps left by current environmental laws.”
The principal sponsor for the catwalk event, Natracare, echoed these sentiments. “Natracare is proud to support One Dress: PLANET’s activist fashion movement. Amplifying the urgency of ending ecocide during London Fashion Week is the perfect platform,” said Susie Hewson, founder of Natracare.
How to Get Involved
For just £50, individuals can purchase one of the embroidered flowers, becoming part of a global movement to criminalize ecocide. The funds will help Stop Ecocide International in their mission to push for stronger environmental legislation.
