Rick Owens Unveils “HOLLYWOOD WOMEN’S” Collection at Paris Fashion Week
Rick Owens has once again captivated the fashion world with his Spring/Summer 2025 collection, titled “HOLLYWOOD WOMEN’S,” which debuted at Paris Fashion Week in September 2024. This show continues Owens’ exploration of inclusivity, featuring fashion students, faculty, and members of the Owenscorp team on the runway, symbolizing a celebration of unity in these tumultuous times.
Owens expressed his regret over last season’s intimate, exclusive showcase and made a conscious shift toward embracing wider community involvement. His collection, a tribute to his personal journey from the judgmental small town of Porterville to the freedom of Hollywood, celebrates the “weirdos and freaks” that inhabit this world, a nod to Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side” and the flamboyant figures in underground cinema.
The collection itself blends Owens’ signature avant-garde aesthetics with sustainable, eco-conscious materials. Delicate capes in silk chiffon from Italy’s Como region, biodegradable cupro tunics, and ZDHC-certified denim treated in water-saving Italian wash houses all demonstrate the designer’s commitment to ethical fashion. The ethereal pieces are juxtaposed against thrash denim cutoffs, oversized boots with shin cargo packs, and biker jackets made from veg-tanned lamb hide or American alligator leather.
Rick Owens’ homage to Hollywood’s Art Deco era shines through in dramatic gowns, metallic knits, and black leather Art Deco crowns created in collaboration with Parisian hat-maker Coco Lucquaid. Each element of the collection reflects Owens’ ongoing dialogue between individuality and shared human experience, an urgent message in the face of growing global intolerance.
With casting by Angus Munro, hairstyling by Duffy, and makeup by MAC Cosmetics and Daniel Sallstrom, the show was accompanied by a haunting soundtrack, including Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde,” emphasizing Owens’ signature fusion of high art and high fashion.
Rick Owens’ latest collection not only mesmerized attendees but also reiterated the designer’s commitment to fostering unity, creativity, and social responsibility.
