Toughest Training in the British Army
Steven Kelly, 40, was a commando in the Royal Artillery for over twenty years, where he was deployed in Afghanistan and travelled the world training and instructing in challenging Arctic, desert, mountain, and jungle locations.
TV Adventurer
Now Steven is well-known as a TV survivalist, having starred twice in hit US reality show Naked and Afraid on the Discovery channel. In 2024, Series 17, he lasted the full 21 days in the Colombian jungle despite starving, freezing and being bitten to death by insects, while hunting lizards and keeping up the spirits of his fellow camper, who said he was the best survivalist partner she could have hoped for.
In Naked and Afraid: Apocalypse, 2025, Steven went even further and survived 35 days in South Africa, threatened by lions, crocodiles, black mamba snakes and 110-degree weather, all whilst showing not just determination and grit, but remaining cheerful in the face of starvation and hellish adversity.
With Bear Grylls on BBC One
This year Steven featured with wife Jenny on Bear Grylls’ new programme Wild Reckoning, as the couple completed tough tasks in the Welsh wilderness discussing future plans together. The episode will be shown again on Friday 14th August on BBC2 at 6.30 pm peak viewing time.
Steven and Jenny also starred and succeeded in British survival show Naked, Alone and Racing to Get Home on E4 in 2023.
The Bushcraft Teacher
A passionate educator, Steven has founded South West Survival, a bushcraft school based in Devon, where he brings his exceptional field knowledge to everyone from schoolchildren to company executives.
He also runs The Survival Debrief podcast, with fascinating interviews of fellow TV survivalists, stuntmen and women, and adventurers, available on Spotify and YouTube.

An excellent speaker with fascinating survival stories to tell, Steven has just been invited as a speaker at the Outdoor Xpo in Birmingham joining such celebrities as fellow TV survivalist Ray Mears.
